I was lucky enough to be given a whole leg of Jamon Iberico at Christmas and it's still in my kitchen unopened, I don't have room for a ham stand in my kitchen!
Anyway I am going back to England next week for Easter and I want to take some back with me for the folks at home.
So does anybody know a place where I can get it sliced up and vacuum packed, Ive tried a couple of the Museo del Jamons but they weren't particularly helpful, I guess you have to buy the jamon there before they slice it for you!
Hopefully somebody can point me in the direction of a friendly butchers that would do it for me for a small fee.

well, i had hoped someone else would pop in with some more helpful advice but no luck.
so, i went by my "butcher dude" on the way home just now and he said he can slice it all up for you, slice half of it up or whatever tickles your fancy (he did not use that phrase exactly ).
to slice it all up and hand you back the ham in vacuum sealed packages, he will charge you 25-30 euros. you would have to leave the "pata" for 2 days (eg. leave it on a mon. and pick it up on wed.).
if you have it all sliced up, make sure ya get the bone back, it is great for cooking with (and for beating the hell out of would be thiefs :jeje:
you can negotiate on the slicing of less if you like.
----------------------------------------------------- carnes y embutidos SANTIAGO mercado de san miguel, stand #26. MAP HERE phone: 915481214 (no espeeek iiingleeesh!!! :jeje: ) -----------------------------------------------------
the stand is not marked "SANTIAGO", in fact, it has no sign that i have ever seen but it is on the far side of the market (west side) as you enter from calle mayor and the beginning of the plaza de san miguel.
"bringas pub" is right in front of the market so use yer built-in brit talent and sniff out the guinness, then turn around 180 degrees and the market is right in front of you
if you want, let me know when you plan on going and i can pop down and meet you near the market somewhere as i live right there. i can show ya where the stand is and serve as interpreter for "a small fee" = "small liquid fee" = "pint" (ok, not exactly cockney but it get's the point across).
That's really helpful, I'll pop down there in the morning before Footy. Thank you for your offer of interpreting for me, but I think my Spanish will run to it!
See you at footy tomorrow
I know that Bringas pub well by the way, it was actually the first pub I ever went to when I arrived in Madrid 2 years ago, you were right the Built in Brit Guinness sniffer, sniffed it out :jeje:

Picked up my Jamon today all sliced up and neatly vacuum packed and they only charged me 20. I thought I would get more packages though, I guess there isn't as much meat on the pigs leg as I thought! Still I have enough to take back to the folks at home and some left over for my fridge!
I'll buy you a pint, next time I see you. Hope the recuperation is going well. Have a good Easter.
