I was wondering if anyone knows any links or has any information on the routes that the Semana Santa processions take in Madrid? Do they originate from La Almudena and end up there?

(When I was in Spain last year, I spent Semana Santa in Sevilla so I missed the action in Madrid and now I need the information for an architecture thesis project that I'm doing.)

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hola Jer,
Sorry about the but thanks a million for the info...It definitely helps as I'm trying to piece together the routes that the processions take in Madrid!
By the way, I love multimadrid.com! Every time I feel homesick for Madrid, I visit the site.

Talking about Semana Santa, Jer, is Semana santa as crowded in Madrid as it is in Sevilla and Andalucia in general?

Hey Booklady, traditionally Semana Santa in Sevilla is "the place to be" but the mere fact that Madrid has over 5,000,000 pop. cuases huge crowds.

Not as crowded as Sevilla but Madrid has a nice Semana Santa and is prous of it's turnout Cool

Not such a good start to Semana Santa 2003 with the first procession cancelled due to a spot of rain. Roll Eyes

I was with the crowd in the Plaza de la Villa when a policeman came out of the Casa de la Villa to announce that the procession was cancelled "por motivos meteorolgicos"

The forecast looks OK for later in the week

My parents are coming to stay and we're going to 'do' Semana Santa in Madrid, but also take in some of the processions in Alcal, Guadalajara, Segovia etc

Hey JamesH, yes, a bummer.

I was told by my optician today, who is from Jerez de la Frontera, that it was POURING there yesterday as well and the processions did not go out.
