Hey all, I just had a cool idea and wanted to start this thread to make an offer to anyone interested.
As many of you know, the world famouse Spanish "Loteria de Navidad" (X-mas Lottery) is coming up.
Well, tickets have ALREADY gone on sale (started at the beginning if October) and I thought it might be fun to have everyone participate in a lotto pool.
I have seen sites on the web and services in newspapers and magazines (mostly in the UK) offering Spanish X-mas lotto tickets to people abroad but they charge quite a bit more than the tickets cost.
So, since I have a Pay Pal account at www.multimadrid.com/paypal , I am accepting $10 participations for the x-mas "gordo" drawing in December.
The way I will work it is that anyone interested can pay $10 into my secure server with their credit card and around December 15th (a week before the drawing on Dec. 22nd) I will see how much money we hava amassed and spend it all on Christmas lotto tickets.
I will have to confirm the exact price in Euros (this is the first lotto drawing in Euros for "El Gordo") but last year each ticket was 3.000 pesetas. So, if the price has not gone up, it will cost 18.03 Euros/ticket.
Here is my ticket from last year...
... which won me jack!
So, if we get 10 people participating, that would total $100 and I could buy 5 tickets. That would cost only $90 but the other $10 will have to go to cover the damn commission that Pay Pal charges me on transactions
Yes QuePasa, they actually have already "sung in Euros" since they have "la lotera del nio" in Jan. every year. which is the other big Spanish lotto drawing. The kids adapted pretty well
All you have to do is fill in the amount "10" and the rest of your credit card info.
There is a link that says "if you have never paid via Pay Pal, click here", PLEASE IGNORE IT!!!! It is Pay Pals way of sucking you in to open an account which YOU DO NOT NEED to simply pay into my account.
On the second page (second step of the payment process), be sure to include your name and board nickname (if you have one) in the comments box.
Its my daughters birthday the same day, and I have made a rule that the first ticket I see I have to buy - so, I suppose this counts too!!! Ill give you the cash when I see you on 25th, if thats OK!!!
Each ticket I buy, I photocopy and send a percentage of each ticket to friends as Xmas pressies. So far, I have only ever got my original stake back..... but.... this year, who knows!!!! Always hopeful!!!!

If anyone outside the U.S. wants to participate and pay in to the server, they can do so by clikcing the "Outside the U.S." text link to the righ of the "Zip:" (Zip Code) field on the U.S.A. payment form.
That will take you to a similiar form for non-U.S. residents but with a selection of countries.
Jer, count me in! I will send the payment on 10/31, a very lucky day for me! BTW, be sure to wear red underwear when you go buy the tickets, that's real lucky, and if you have an Azabache, wear that too as well, you can't be too supersticious when it comes to luck with "El Gordo"!

No matter what I do, the system keeps telling me I'm not registered then that I have the wrong password then I'm not registered, etc.! I have emailed them to send me whatever password they seem to think I have ...
I'm glad it works for your phone business 'cause you would be broke if customers had the same problems as I seem to be having!
And I'm really not an idiot

This sounds like fun but since we will be in Sevilla for the Gordo drawing....I'll think we'll take the pleasure of buying our own tickets from the street vendors...and then enjoy the live drawing...albeit sans the normal "peseta" song!!
OK, did you put up just how "fat" El Gordo is??? I NEVER buy a lottery ticket here in Michigan(where the Power Ball is up to 34 million, I believe) though I have bought a one dollar ticket in Illinois when visiting my daughter. I MAY risk ten bucks...
Pack light, sleep cheap, eat well.

Aaaaahhh yes but then you will not have the luck of multimadrid with you (similiar to the FORCE in many ways)
Not Sure how "gordo" the prize will be but will find out this week.
Puna, sorry you are having trouble with the payment system
You could do a bank wire or send a check but between your's and my bank's commissions and fees, you would have to send me like $30 to make it worthwhile
Booklady & QuePasa, let me know if you have trouble with the online payment.
