What a dull lot. Not a post yet on Fiestas! Well, I'd just like to kick start this section by reminding anyone who plans on being in Madrid during the first two weeks of August to watch out for the fiestas of San Lorenzo, San Cayetano and La Paloma, all of which bring Madrileos who didn't make it to the beach out on to the streets of Lavapis and La Latina. Definitely the best fiestas of the year in Madrid and not to be missed. Who said Madrid closed down in August?

Dull! Why you little... I aughta... Wink . Hey, give us a chance, the board is only 1 week old! Aaaaahhh yes indeed! Thanks Barry, wow you are bringing back memories. A year ago at this time I was working in a cybercaf (which will remain nameless since the owner is a moron and deserves no publicity on this board) in La Latina area and I remember the fiestas well. All the merrymakers in the streets while I had to work Razzer . Anyway, it is indeed a good time for all but I like San Isidro better (Madrid's biggest party by far!).
Saludos,
jer...

Fiesta Alert
If in Madrid between June12-17, check out the fiestas of San antonio de la Florida. They take place in the streets just behind the Norte/ Principe Pio train station, and on the 13th there is a curious local tradition. Young madrilea lasses (mozas) go to the chapel and deposit three pins in the holy water font. Then they plunge their hand in, and according to the number of pins which have attatched themselves to their quivering flesh (ouch), they'll know how many novios the considerate saint will send them this year. If you get no pins you can console yourself with street dancing and drunkeness. For more info check out the city council's site www.munimadrid.es and click on fiestas. Have fun and I hope the saint intercedes for at least some of you.

Hi barry and all you Madrid Fiesta goers out there. Barry, I can see you are going to be my #1 festival correspondant, great job!!! With all that goes on in this amazing city it is hard for me to keep up with it all and I am so busy developing new material for the site, I'm glad I have help from other Madrid nuts like yourself Wink I had read about that tradition recently and I thought that on June 13th (Day of San Antionio) it was 13 pins that they placed in the baptismal font(seemed like a lot of pins so you are probably right barry) and if even one stuck, that meant they were to marry within the next year. Either way it may be, go for it ladies Big Grin

You're right Jer. 13 pins and up to THIRTEEN novios! San Antonio's a gernerous guy. So if you're a young maiden reading this, wear your Sunday best and bring bandages.
