Hi space monkey, just got around to this one, been a bit busy.
Welcome to our little family here online.
There is a thread entitled "Carnaval in the Plaza Mayor?"
HERE, have a look.
Also, get your appetitie up by checking out my Carnaval Madrid footage
HERE
Carnaval this year is Feb. 28 - March 5 (Fri.-Wed.), the inauguration being on that Friday, Feb. 28th and the ending "Entierro de la Sardina" (Burrial of the Sardine) being on Wednesday, March 5th.
At that
THREAD FROM LAST YEAR'S CARNAVAL you can see the schedule of events but the exact one for this year has not been released yet. I will put it up as soon as I get my hands on it
By looking at last year's schedule howeever, one can pretty much get an idea of what will go on this year and when it will all happen (the musical acts will change but not much else).
For example, the huge parade and 1st concert will be Saturday afternoon/evening March 1st. Again, see
THIS THREAD for details.
While many districts and suburbs here have their own little parades, concerts and Carnaval celebrations, the focal point of Carnaval in Madrid is, without a doubt, the Plaza Mayor. You would do well to hang out around here during that week if ya can't get to the Canary Islands or Cdiz
Also, if anyone has kiddies here, the Sunday of Carnaval week sees a "Festival Infantil" (kiddie festival) complete with kiddie costume contest in the Plaza Mayor.
Hope this helps.
Saludos,
jer...
