Me and my 12 years old son want to visit Madrid for 5 days from the 30th of october.
I'm looking for special Madrid-Tripps for childs. Does anyone know something about the Bernabeu Tour?? What can we see???
Is it impossible to buy free tickets for championsleague game agaist Bukarest??? I found only tickets for about 200 €. That's too expensive.
Further we are interessted in popmusic. Does any theater play the Queen musical? Or does anyone know a good rock concert.
Sorry, but my spanish ist not so good, (I fear my English is bad as well) and my son only speaks a little English, so we cannot visit a spanish theater.

thanks for your help.
saludos pmza13 (Petra from Germany)

hi Petra, welcome to the forums.

this thread is a bit broad so you may want to SEARCH the board for specific threads related to your questions. i did a SEARCH on "madrid with kids" and came up with THESE RESULTS

you can read all about the bernabéu tour at www.realmadrid.com/elclub/tour/portada_eng.htm

tickets will be trickier as they tend to be expensive. i am NOT a soccer fan so can't help much there. also, i have no idea what you mean by "free tickets" since free tickets for a soccer game here are unheard of.

according to the website www.wewillrockyou.es/home.html, the "we will rock you" show is playing at the "teatro calderón" in the plaza de jacinto benavente (metro: "sol" or "tirso de molina") from october 6th till the 29th so unless they extend it, you would arrive a day too late. tickets (if not all sold out) available at the "fnac" department store in between callao and puerta del sol. they have a ticket booth at the south end of the building, entrance is sepatate from the rest of the store. there is some conflicting info however since the theaters website at www.teatrocalderon.com/eprogramacion.htm says that the show will not be until jan. 07 and that "fama" (fame) is playing now. i also checked another few sites and they all say that the queen musical is not on now but rather fame is playing instead.

if you want to see fame, go to "el corte inglés" in puerta del sol for tix.

according to a newspaper website here, the following are the concerts in madrid the from oct. 30th to nov. 5th...

up for the "TOOL + MASTODON" show or too heavy for the kiddie wink

as for madrid with children, look at http://www.guiadelocio.com/madrid/ninos for some ideas (you will have to muddle through the spanish).

maybe do halloween at warner bros. amusement park --> www.guiadelocio.com/madrid/ninos/fichadeciudad.cfm?id=129475

also, get the madrid vision bus one day. it is the hop-on, hop-off open upper deck bus and kids usually love it.

jer...

Hola jer...
lo siento, I'm not at home already in this forum.
Muchas gracias for your tipps. Great!
concern the "free tickts" - I mean tickets, which everybody can buy. On one page I found real tickets which only can be bought from members of the club. Here in Germany I found an agency which sells football tickets, but only incredibly expensive. I cannot imagine that 100.000 Madrilenos spent about 200 € for one football game...... wink
I'm learning spanish with a girlfriend. I'm bastante good in reading spanish, but when I try to talk it is complicated. My gramatic is horrible, but I hope the people in Madrid speak a clearer spanish than those in La Palma smiler

ah... tenemos una habitacíon en el hotel Petit Palace San Bernardo, Plaza Santo Domingo. Connaices este hotel??? Lo siento para mi espanol pequenito frowner
Hasta la proxima vez

Muchas gracias
Petra

hey Petra.

best to keep the posts to english only as that is the language of the board and not everyone here reads spanish.

i do not know that hotel specifically but the petit palace (high tech hotels) chain is very nice as a general rule.

again, no idea about the footy tix but you could go to the bernabéu when you arrive and see if the ticket counters are open and selling.

saludos,
jer...

I don't know that hotel, but Plaza Santo Domingo (or what will someday be the plaza is under major construction right now. It's very close to some very charming parts of Madrid--Opera, Gran Vía, Callao/Preciados, Sol, the Plaza Mayor...--but there's a huge pit in the ground in the immediate area. I'd ask in advance for a quiet room on a higher floor, just in case the construction is noisy.

@ jer I'm sorry that I wrote a little in spanish. I didn't imagine, that everybody here writes in english. So stupid!!! frowner never again!
(But I'm allways looking for a possibity to train my poor spanish. Reading books is too complicated and I need someone who correct my mistakes...)

the petit palace san bernardo is VERY new, so new that it does not even show on the high tech hotels website yet --> www.hthotels.com/htm01/lista_zn?cid=4&zid=1

you can see HERE that it is actually on calle san bernardo number 3 so it is not in the thick of the construction but the hotel around the corner (best wester santo domingo) is expanding and there is a ton of construction going on there as well as the hole in the ground mentioned by mariposita which is actually a park being built where a 3 story parking garagfe used to be, god bless em for tearing that thing down as it was hideous.

we have an entire forum for that. it is the last one on the forums list called "practica y platica tu español" --> CLICK HERE.

not to mention the many "spanish language help forums" HERE.

Hi Jer,

thanks a lot for your ht-links. I sent a mail to the San Bernado to make sure that we will get a really quiet room in an upper floor.

Another question: do you know something about the Crystal Palace?? Is it in the Retiro Park?? I saw a film about it in the german TV.
In the web I only found the Crystal Palace de la Arganzuela. Is this the same??

Thanks again and saludos!

hey Petra.

el palacio de cristal is in the retiro park alright. it is just past the main lake and the plaza de honduras in a wooded area through a pathway. if you get there, just ask around and you will find it.
MAP HERE

i have a great photo of it that you can use for desktop wallpaper at www.multimadrid.com/pastdesktops/desktops/md2_1024c.jpg

no, the "palacio de cristal de la arganzuela" is completely different. it is on "paseo de la chopera" number 10 (metro: legazpi).
MAP HERE

Hi there Petra, I thought that I would just add, that I have been to the Palacio de Cristal de la Arganzuela, a few times in fact, mostly on very quiet days, when there were not many kids around, and I found it to be a really cool place, not in the sense of temperature, it is tropical after all, but still it was quite comfortable in there, and extremely interesting indeed, most of it, with it's tropical fish ponds and tiny terrapins et cetera. I spent about 2 hours there the first time I went, and could have stayed longer, I thoroughly recommend a visit to this place, also if your interested in local history, it has got plenty of that.

Here's a brief description, and some link's...

Remodelled building that formed part of the architectural group comprising the historic City Abattoir and Cattle market, constructed in 1908. Now transformed into a gigantic greenhouse, it vaults one large cross-shaped room, surrounded by over 1,000 varieties of exotic plants.

Invernadero de la Arganzuela. Parques y Jardines de Madrid
http://www.revistaiberica.com/iberica_natural/jardinesmadrid/invernadero.htm

ps: sorry about the Spanish, I hope you can cope with reading & understanding it.

Ciao for now.

Angelo.

Hola jer & Angelo,

thanks for your help. It make my preparation for our week in Madrid more easily.
I'm telling all my frieds here in Germany about you and your very nice forum about madrid. Great!!!

@ Angelo: yes, I can read spanish, better than talk (with my dicionary)
@ jer: the wallpaper foto is fantasic, muchas gracias!!!!

I have some more practically questions, first I thought it should be better to open a new posting under 100% Madrid, but I don't find the right place. So I stay here. Is it ok?
It' s a typically touri-question. You might laugh at me... I'm sure. ;-) But doesn't matter, I'm Mrs. Perfect from Germany- typically German ;-)))hahahaha...

Which way is the best to come from the airport to my hotel?? I found a metro-connection, but we have to change two times to come to "Santo Domingo". Can I manage this with a suitcase? Or are there long ways from one metro to the other??
(My suitcase will be rather empty.... I want to go shopping in Madrid, perhaps someone has good tips for buying shoes and clothes, a little hip and not extremly expensive. Here in Germany this autumn the shoes are very expensive, nice ones about 100 €, botas or botines (don't know the English word, sorry ;-)up to 140, 160€...)

Thanks for your patience. Next week, I hope you won't get anymore stupid touri-questions, than Alex and I will stay in Madrid.

Saludos
Petra
