Hey all, I was just reviewing some photos from my phonecam and I came across a funky street performer that I get a real laugh out of :jeje: every time I see him.
Thought this would be a fun thread to let people know of the street performers around Spain.
"WIND GUY" :jeje: (walking against gale force winds, umbrella and all)
He can usually be spotted on Calle de los Preciados, right in front of the "fnac" department store between Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Callao. __________________________________________________
Feel free to add yours (with or without a pic). If you can't post a pic cause you have no place online to store it but realy think we should see it, feel free to send it to me along with a description and where to find the street performer (can be anywhere in Spain).
Saw them on Calle de las Postas where it turns into Calle de la Sal (street that runs up into the Plaza Mayor from Puerta del Sol from the corner with McDs on it). __________________________________________________
Jer, you are unstoppable! If this site did not rock before... it really rolls now! Wow! If you keep this up, we won't miss Madrid at all between visits. Gracias! Thank You! etc.
How much are these cute phones, btw?

In front of "Bankinter" bank on 3 way corner of Calle Mayor, Calle Esparteros and Calle de las Postas (just before you walk up into the Plaza Mayor). __________________________________________________
I don't know if this guy is there anymore, but on a couple of previous trips there was a guy in Retiro Park who thought he was Michael Jackson. He played Michael Jackson songs on a boom box and tried to dance like him. Then he'd go around with a stocking cap to collect money. It was pretty funny because he looked nothing like Michael Jackson. :jeje:
I saw him in 1995 and in 1998, but didn't see him when I was there this March (and I looked for him too. )

You should post a picture of the "white angel" who usually sets up shop at the northeast corner of Plaza Mayor. She seems to be very popular. I have a mixed view of the street performers. While they are only trying to earn a living, they also add to congestion and are unwitting accomplices to pickpockets as they attract large groups of people who are easily distracted. I do like the various tango dance teams though. There actually was one duo that I saw in Barcelona last summer, and then again in Madrid a couple of months later. The female of the duo was a knockout! I also kind of like the old fashioned feeling of the "titeres" puppet shows in the Retiro.
Hey eduardo, I'll do my best to capture that angel
Not to mention those performers like the "SILVER PEASANTS" above who just about MAKE you give them money Look closely at their sign, it says "Foto/Video = ".
okay, you have to check these guys out... in the tribunal metro half way down the stairs between the line 1 and the line 10, every weekday (well just about every weekday that i am there--around 430ish is when i pass through) there are these two guys that really crank out some funk.
the dreadlocked dude knocks some thumping beats off his electricized bongos while the skinny guy blows furiously on his sax. i get really confused by all those different terms for electronic music, but if i were to guess...i'd say it is a little drum and bass with a hard funk undertone and a heavy nod to improvisational jazz.
yesterday i even noticed they were selling a CD called Metro Jazz. heck, now that i think about it...i should buy a copy.
go, you'll be bobbing on the escalators for sure.

I just saw the Wind Guy a few days ago and it craked me up. Percome will think of anything these days. Like toilet paper over the Metro grids, and it flies when the wind blows. Why didnt I think of that???

Has been spotted along Calle de los Preciados and on Calle del Correo. I see him a lot right beneath my office balcony doors and makes me want to... errr... ummm... forget it
Throw him a coin and he dances a JIG :jeje: Ok, not quite but he does move in a mechanical mimelike way if ya give him money. __________________________________________________
I'm also a fan of "street tango dancers", the ones that perform at the Plaza de Oriente, right by the Teatro Real, are amazing ; and a couple dances some days at Pza. Sta. Ana at around 8:30-9PM. BTW, I just love the current ambiance (or is it atmosphere?) of the good old Plaza, I try to go there everyday for a while with my niece Chloe, for her it's "the park", and we make 'amiguitos' at the children's area from various nationalities most days.
