Hey jazzbo, last time I tried one of those it was a very basic model about 8 years ago and was not a voice one. From those websites I see that things have come a LONG way since then.

Unfortunately I haver no personal experience with those gadgets.

Saludos,

Hi Jazzbo:

I wanted to add my thoughts here. I'm not sure if you were talking about translating devices, such as machines, or if you were referring to the new-fangled online translators. Either way, I wouldn't recommend either, apart from just using them to construct very basic sentences.

Both methods have an inherent problem. The makers of both methods have not yet figured out how to deal with subtleties in the Spanish language that occur frequently, if not always. These subtleties, such impersonal 'se', reflexive 'se' that does not refer back to the subject in English, etc. These are difficult at best for most speakers of another language to grasp, let alone for the intricacies to be programmed into a handheld device or to be processed by a series of algorithms online.

Be weary, aside from the occassional foray into simple sentences!

Hope this helps Smiler
