Ee, there's nowt laike a nice bit o' cheese, but I must say you need crackers to go with it, eh Gromit?

I'd be happy if I could say "you and me, babe - how 'bout it?" in Spanish, never mind poesia.

Methinks I would get slapped... but a friend back home has had enviable success with the line "I don't know why, but for some reason I felt I had to come over and say hello" - now that's good cheese, but he swears by it. Maybe this thread could evolve into a cheese board...

I personally would never stoop to such shallow, manipulative and frankly bare-faced lies Wink , so if there are any kind, sensitive and drop-dead gorgeous women (waiting for "outraged" from Manchester to post indignant reply...) reading this looking for a genuine, caring guy who likes pina colada and getting caught in the rain, my cell is.... when is this dating service getting going!!!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

My sister was given a classic line in a bar in Washington, DC...

Some guy kept looking at her for awhile across the bar...then eventually approached her and introduced himself and swore up and down that he had seen my sister before...that he knew her from somewhere... Of course, my sister said that she had never seen the guy before in her life. They made small talk and then he left her...

About 15 mintues later, he came up to her again with this "Ah-ha expression on his face and proclaimed that he know where he saw her before... of course my sis fell for it hook-line-and-sinker and asked where and he responded... "I saw you last night...you are the woman of my dreams!"

GROAN!!! :lo:

I got some really weird pick up lines in Washington DC too. Maybe it's the city. Maybe they follow Clinton (oh, I'm such a bad Democrat).

What worked for me once was some British guy asking me if I liked to snuggle. Somehow in the midst of many drinks and it being the middle of the night, I totally fell for it. Wink Wink

Other than that a Cuban guy I met right as I got to Spain asked me to come to his place for (excuse my language, but he said it, not me) "Fu**y **cky." I declined that one!!!

Hello,

I can't help thinking of Snuggle, the annoyingly cute fabric softener bear.

I have some cheesy pickup lines for you all:

[Grab her tush.] Pardon me, is this seat taken?

You must be Jamaican, because Jamaican me crazy.

Excuse me, I think you have something in your eye. Nope, it's just a sparkle.

and yes the classic....

If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together.

Now the challenge is to effectively convert them into spanish.

Please, hold the thanks. (lol)

Somebody said that cursi would be the right translation for cheezzzzzi here, but cursi is not a negative word perse (did i spell this corretly?)
so the best option for me is "cutrix total!"

cheers,

You are correct pim, "cursi" is not a good translation for "cheesy".

Jer-
Why isn't it a good translation for cheesy? That's what it means!

Someone said it wasn't bad- but its not really a good thing- but it is a nice way to say it. Not everything has to be a bad way of saying things! (ie. joder, cabron etc.)

Cutre is poor, shabby something not well made.

I agree with Espe3,

Cursi = pretentious, vulgar, shoddy.. . So yes, Jer, cursi could be cheesy if you think of cheesy as in terms of shoddy.

Ive just had this convo with my friends here who knew when I said cursi I meant naff/cheesy!! But they did say it wasnt exactly right, but didnt have another word for it.

So Smiler I then asked if they could give me a word for "dodgy", as in a dodgy character - not horrid or illegal, just dodgy!!! i.e working just outside the law, or maybe not!!! This caused a great discussion and still they couldnt come up with a spanish word!!!!! Smiler

Maybe some things just are not possible to translate, as they gave me some very sensible sentences to explain - which were not what I wanted!!!!
