Hey gang, got an e-mail from the creator of this cool new website at www.intercambio-es.com
I have registered and was looking it over and it seems to be an honest, non-comercial attempt at bringing Spaniards together with native English-speakers.
There are over 400 members and most are Spaniards in Madrid and Barcelona looking for "intercambios" to learn/practice English.
Since most people who want intercambios normally have more or less time at different points in life, registering with this site will put you in their database and you can accept or refuse the intercambios that contact you or even look for a partner on the site on your own.
Well Juliette, I think the idea is soooo good that I am in "negotiations" with JOOST to co-brand his database and make it a full section of multimadrid

Hey all, just wanted to let you all know that Jess (amapola) and I signed up on that site intercambio.es about a month and a half ago and we have met TONS of cool people through it! You can choose either to put just your email or your number and you can just wait and watch while the intercambios roll in. We have both had really positive experiences with it!!! Check it out definitely!!! All ages too. Besos, Joy

I signed up about a week ago to see how it worked and have already gotten 3 e-mails from Spaniards wanting to do an "intercambio"
One note, as a general rule, the gals will get more contacts than the guys as many men see "intercambios" as a pick-up thang and look for ladies to "intercambiar" (intercambiar what? depends on you :jeje: ) with.
I was wondering why the gender filter on the search was not working as I was testing the system. I was told by Joost (the founder) that it is due to the fact that when guys register, they say they are women in order to show up more in the results since they know that mostly guys will be looking for girls to "Intercambiar" with
No way around this so you should all know that if you look for a gal intercambio partner, the results will come up mixed (actually mostly guys).
Yep, works alright, I have my first intercambio on Thursday. I did notice the lack of specification of married or otherwise...I expect I'll have to clear that up early on, which means it may be a pretty short meeting.
The whole "intercambio" concept is an interesting phenomenon, especially when one looks at the motivation behind the different sexes when looking for an intercambio partner.
I am one to talk, that's how I met Ena :l: :l: :l:
But I was just interested in practicing my Spanish, I swear :jeje:
