hmm... serendipitous, because of it's suffix, probably does not exist in spanish.

But, isn't there a way to translate the english suffix of "tous" to a spanish suffix like "oso"

an example would be "insidious" is "insidioso"

so: serependismo would be serependismoso ???

We would say serendipitoso, but first of all, please explain to me what on earth is SERENDIPITY.

I've found that word in may places but still don't know what's that and if I do a search I find either wedding "chorradillas" or a Church.

During a time I thought it was a stories collection but did not know what about......

Hola Blanca.

Well according to my diccionarios, it means basically this... "faculty of making happy discoveries by accident" (serendipitous) coined by Horace Walpole.

faculty = (1) aptitude for a particular activity (2)Inherent mental or physical power. (3)a Group of related University departments. (3)b U.S. teaching staff of a University or college. (4) authorization, especially by a church authority. [Latin: related to 'facile' 'facilitate' 'facility'. Oxford dictionary.

Cheers amiga...

SERENDIPITY (from the Oxford English Dictionary)

f. Serendip, a former name for Sri Lanka + -ity. A word coined by Horace Walpole, who says that he had formed it upon the title of the fairy-tale `The Three Princes of Serendip', the heroes of which `were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of'.

So it was made up!

I consulted the 'Real Academia' www.rae.es

AVISO

La palabra "serependismo" no est en el Diccionario. Mad

The Oxford dictionary translates serendipity as serendipia (feminine), but doesnt have serendipitous. Serendip is also a town in Sri Lanka. Stephen

this is serendipity...

one day about a month ago i was having an icky day. couldn't manage a word of spanish, was looking for a dress for a wedding and everything was too small, my hair was freaking, and i was having a work problem...just one of those god i suck completely days. so i was walking down san geronimo this feeling draped around me like a wet blanket. suddenly i saw a man walking towards me. he looked at me as if he knew me. and then he asked me for a light. i said i didn't have one and continued walking. then he stopped me and said in really bad english...forgive me but i just have to tell you that you are really beautiful, you should smile more, okay?

well, it was just what i needed to hear on such an icky day, so i said thanks, and we parted.

three days later i was walking down c/ principe windowshopping, when suddenly he was in front of me saying hello. we decided it was fate that we meet and went for a coffee. as our coffee ended he handed me his business card...
Serendipity Art Management.

we've since become good friends...all quite by happy accident.

serendipity...if you want to find it you will, you need to be open to it though.
xoxo C

WoW What have I started here... Big Grin

I decided to use that word a couple of weeks back in my profile signature, and now it seems to have gained popularity with the board members, and that amazing coincidence with that guy is...well.. Amazing for sure.

Perhaps someone should start a new thread based on the serendipitous experiences of our members. Come on and tell us about your experience of Real/True Serendipity .
