How many of you would be interested in forming a book club in Madrid?
I think its a great way to meet people and its a bit more structured than an intercambio.
We could read books in Spanish and English and meet once or twice a month starting during the summer, at someone's home. Do you think the idea would fly?

There is actually a great new bookshop / cafe that would be an excellent location to host such an event if and when it gets going. I am sure that Jaime at the J & J Book Store could let you know what the availability is like. Rocco.
Excellent idea, Gata, wish I could attend. I host one of these in my library, during the Spring term, it seems to draw a lot of interest among the students and the conversation is very lively,I make flan and expresso! to keep the conversation exciting!

What if we also included those of us who live outside Madrid? We could than have a thread to discuss the book. Of course, this would somewhat depend on the ability for us to get the books you choose.

You don't think I would if I could?!?!? Unfortunately my law school debt makes it pretty impossible right now.
Believe me, if the opportunity ever presents itself, I'll be there in a heartbeat. :l: Until that time, I will continue to live vicariously through those of you that do live in Madrid.

Hey funny to see this thread up because I actually came on today with the idea to see how many people would be interested in open mic nights, a creative writing group, and a book club. I already talked to Candela and she said that she would definitely be down for the creative writing group. I just wanted to get some ideas of times people would be available and groups that you would be interested in, so we could get something going for January. Let me know of any suggestions you might have.

Im so happy people are interested! The only thing is, I am not going to be in Madrid until summer, so unless you guys want to work together on this and start it up this spring, I cant do much work on it. I have to see what the latest book titles are and check out that J&J bookstore venue, etc. When I come, I will be a student, so weekends work a bit better for me. SUnday seems to be out, what do you all think about Friday or Saturday afternoons? Please promote this idea to your Spanish friends too......

When will you be here exactly because Im going back to the states from Dec 24-30th. If you are around on the 2nd or 3rd come by the store. Id love to throw around ideas. If not, then we will keep the idea going through the board and hopefully by the time you get here in summer we will have a smooth group running for you to jump into.

Id like to meet up with you at the store to chat about the club. Since you work in a bookstore too, you can help suggest some book titles. Where is the store? I will be in Madrid on the 2nd-morning of 7th. Im so excited.
