Can you tell me how to say in Spanish: I am going steady/dating John?

and how can I say: "He is dating Sonja" in Spanish?

hey Tasoula, i have combined your two threads and moved them to the correct forum. don't worry, you will get the hang of posting Smiler

i got a kick out of that "going steady", has been ages since i heard that (think it was last time i watched "happy days" :jeje: ) my god, i am getting old Eeker

there are many ways to express what you want, below are a few...

quote:
"I am going steady/dating John?"
 "salgo con juan".
 "juan y yo estamos saliendo".
 "slo (solamente) salgo con juan".
 "juan es mi novio".
"juan y yo vamos en serio".
 "estoy saliendo con juan".
etc, etc, etc...

for me, the best is simply "salgo con juan". "salir con" is to go out with, in both the friendship and romantic sense but the context.

quote:
"He is dating Sonja"
same way, using "salir con".

you give it a try and we will tell you if you are right (sorry, once a teacher, always a teacher Red Face Wink ).

saludos,
jer...

Of course, if it's more of the adult and not so much the 'teeny-bopper' sense of the expression, you would be more likely to say, 'Tengo pareja. Se llama Juan.' or similar.

Since many 20 (30... and 40...) something Spaniards don't marry nowadays, the 'pareja' term can be applied to an informal or even a formal (living together) relationship.

That'll be two cents please! Wink

I agree with tony t.
I think it is: tengo pareja formal.
Estoy saliendo con mi pareja formal.

while "pareja formal" is steady boy/girlfriend, i have to laugh at what Rocco wrote...

quote:
"Estoy saliendo con mi pareja formal"
... as one would NEVER Hear that spoken (at least not here in spain) :jeje: :jeje: :jeje:

"juan es mi pareja" would be ok though.
