I found that while taking language classes listening to music in the language I am studying helps my pronunciation and listening skills. One musical group that I enjoy is Gypsy Kings.

Hmm...

A genuine fan of Gypsy Kings and Bocelli, or a blatant advertisement?

jer, are people allowed to do these sorts of things?

hey Cervantes, you are right. the answer is NO! people are not allowed to blatently advertise here, especially if they just join to post the ad as Vanessa6959 did and have no history as an active board participant.

i just now saw this thread as i have had a busy morning.

i have edited out the plug in Vanessa6959's post so now she just recommends listening to the gypsie kings as a pronunciation learning tool (with no alterior motives) Wink Red Face

so, what WAS a plug, now has become a valid thread worth continuing Cool

thanks for the tip Vanessa6959

now maybe other teachers/students can post on the groups/songs that they like to use to help teach/learn spanish and/or english.

saludos,
jer...

My fave group for translation practice is Crash Test Dummies. It makes no sense at all.

"Quien pone tu abuela en la casa de las abuelas?
Hizo baby, hizo!

And for Spanish-to-English, I love Camaron de las Islas. How the heck do you rationally sing something like Volando voy? I'm flying? I'm going flying?

I have been dancing flamenco and learning Spanish for many years. Flamenco music always 'gets me in the mood' when I'm revising. It's also great when you finally understand a line of the cante. (having said that - as flamenco lyrics often seem to be about chickens(!) I sometimes wish I still didn't understand them! )Karenanne
