I am trying to find the best way to improve my written Spanish. I learnt Spanish in Spain informally, a long time ago, so can have a conversation, and I can read Spanish, however, my written Spanish is A1 appalling, so I'd like to know how best to improve my written Spanish. A friend in UK says I only need to practise, but how should I do this? Does anyone have any recommendation as to the best course I could undertake with a view to improving spelling and grammar? Thanks in advance!

hey sooz.

why don't you listen to some spoken spanish on a tape, cd or dvd and transcribe what you hear.

then have someone who is an excellent speller in spanish go over it with you.

just an idea.

i also found this --> http://spanish.about.com/od/writtenspanish/ via a quick google search.

if you google "improve written spanish", "learning to write in spanish" and similar terms you will get a lot of good links cool music

saludos,

Thanks Jer. I like your idea of listening to tapes, CD's etc., and then transcribing what was said, so I am going to try that. Only thing is, I don't know anyone with free time who could check my transcriptions! I think I shall have to find a penpal!

as tedious as it sounds, actually typing out spanish texts really helps.
you get to learn where the lo, la, and se goes, when to put the subjunctive down, how to phrase certain things....it really works.

i also make my english students do this in English and i am amazed at how much their writing improves.

also, it removes the necessity of having a spanish reviewer.

i also find that it helps to do this with info you find interesting---for example, i'll do gastronomy reviews from elpais.es or travel articles from spain.info so, at the same time i am learning to write better, i am also learning something cool about this country that i love.

buena suerte maja!

Along a similar line, I've found it greatly helpful to participate in online forums in Spanish. I participate in a Spanish yahoogroup, of which there are many on tons of different topics. Unfortunately, no one (usually) corrects my entries, but I participate in conversations about things of interest and learn a lot simply by reading and responding to others' posts.

Yahoogroups

Check it out; I'm sure there will be a group of interest to you.
