All very interesting. I agree that the Latin
sounds more impressive, and shall use it forthwith against all fiends.

I was only curious actually. As a foreigner, one might get away with saying something like that to a real person.

I presume Vade Retro... is nothing to do with
"Get thee behind me Satan", which is completely
different (it means dont tempt me). Stephen

I found some mortals against whom one can effectively use ¡Vade Retro Satanás!

A few days ago, on minding my own business walking down the street, I spotted a pair of Mormons approaching off my starboard bow, and put myself on yellow alert.

Indeed, as expected, they asked me if I had a minute, the way they always try to engage people. I crossed my index fingers so as to make a crucifix, and uttered the magic words.
They couldn't get away fast enough.

PS1: when they reach the age of 18, they must be too old to be Elders, so what are they called then?

PS2: I´d be interested in experimental evidence about the efficacy of Vade Retro Satanás against Testigos de Jehovah and the like.

die laughing
I did try telling some Testigos once that I was an atheist, a communist and furthermore I didn't have much time. They ran away from me pretty fast.
As far as phrases there's also "Apártate de mí, Satanás" straight outta the Bible, feel free to use that on Morons oops, spelling mistake, Mormons, J Witnesses and other undesirables that try to shove anything down your throat.

Nelsongabriel--Get thee to the Scientology center over on Huertas. You could try all of these out over there, and then some. Just make sure someone knows you are there--just in case they take you into the inner sanctum for some "testing."

P.S. Lena, you make me laugh. I've been accused of being a commie on many occasions, but I never thought of "coming out" as one to drive undesirables away. Good idea!
