I'm going to Madrid in a few days and wanted to send a box or two by post or freight as otherwise those "nice" people at EasyJet airlines will charge me a small fortune in excess baggage!
Has anyone got experience of using a UK company to get stuff to Madrid? There are a huge number of companies over here offering this service - all reputedly "the best" (and cheapest), but perhaps it's better to stick with good old British Royal Mail. Any ideas anyone? Many thanks.
Well, I can answer this one myself...! In the end I decided to go with the Royal Mail and went to a post office to get a cardboard box which could have a max weight of 50KG to send to Madrid. Costs were box - 6 pounds and postage about 40 pounds. You also have to fill in a form which is stuck on the box saying what the contents are and how much they are worth.
Anyway, the service worked fine, 1 week later there was a ring on the door bell in Madrid with the postie saying he had "a small package" !
One word of advice, make sure you dont over fill the box so its bursting at the seams (like I did) as it had a large tear down one side where the frieght folk obviously chuked it around. Luckily nothing had come out... but it was a close one.
So for 50kg of stuff to be sent to Spain from the UK it cost you 46 pounds (69 Euros). Plus you wait a week (or more) and they may break/lose it .
How much does Easyjet charge for a flight from London to Madrid. Would they not sell you a seat for luggage?. For your 69 Euros you must be able to get a seat that could take at least 120kg or more plus hand luggage. Of course they would lose out on the package not eating or drinking. Also, probably not a good idea to dress your package up as a fellow passenger, but a sensible box should be allowed.
Just thoughts .
Saludos,
Ian
