My opinion, you want to get something small and inexpensive (you don't want them to feel like their gifts are inadequate with most spaniards I have found that it really is the thought that counts), but nothing edible. It must be a permanent reminder for them. Something strictly American that you can't get anywhere else or at least something they wouldn't buy for themselves. I know it isn't specific, but I hope it helps

Hi Jenebe, welcome to the group!!! Actually, you posted in the "jeremy's multimadrid.com" forum which is only for feedback on the site and new announcements about things I add (as well as for the ocasional cry out for help by me). I have moved this thread to a more appropriate forum but don't worry, you will get the hang of placing threads in the right forums If you do a search HERE with the word "gifts" you will come up with some threads on this topic. There is a good one at www.multimadrid.com/cgi-bin/jersbbucgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=8&t=000005 (an oldie but goodie ) I agree with Shiloh in that that the most original gifts are those that they can not get here. Feel free to ask about certain items if you are not sure of their availability here, I (as well as others living here) will be glad to help out. Saludos, jer...

One suggestion is a set of colorful postcards or a calendar from your home state/region. It's always a big hit, even though our calendars begin the week with Sunday, while theirs' begin with Monday. Easy to pack, unbreakable and definitely something they will not find in Spain. Living in Albuquerque, NM, I usually bring European friends next year's calendar showing pictures of our annual Balloon Fiesta, Route 66, or one of the Indian pueblos. Living in beautiful Washington State, you have a lot to choose from!
