Hi all - this is probably a Jer question Wink , but in case there are other webmeisters out there who could help, I'm posting rather than emailing (I noticed a few IT 'lurkers'!).

I'm about to move to the city and I want to maintain my existing website (and work on several more). At the moment here in Scotland I have a combined hosting/access package. Before I rearrange these I wanted to know if there are any good deals in Madrid/Spain?

I also will need broadband access, preferably at home, because I'm about to go seriously digital (sounds a bit like "going postal" Big Grin ) with my photography (including transferring whopping files). The only decent broadband place I saw last time I was in town was ono.es, which apparently is a good bet - any thoughts? If anyone knows rough costs I'd appreciate it (my Spanish is still a bit S-L-O-W). In the UK each ADSL contract is tied to a specific property (ie if you move you have to pay again) - is this the same in Spain? The place I'm initially living has no phone, so there is the chance to do a combo I guess.

Hope you can come through for me mm folk (is that better jer? Wink ) - you usually do!!

Cheers

Adrian

PS - have you thought about starting a dating service jer - these meetings seem very fruitful!

Just found THAT thread from last year - very helpful, thanks Tony Jer et al - but Moore's Law and all that - an update would still be cool.

Jejejejeje, that's because you know I would never have answered ya via e-mail, KEEPIN IT ON THE BOARD BABY!!! Big Grin Cool

multimadrid is hosted in London at www.easyspace.co.uk which I find to be the BEST and most amazing deal on the www. This is because they give me unlimited bandwith (data transfer) which I need for my site.

As for a server here, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "ARSYS" ( www.arsys.es ). I have a virtual server with them for all of my other websites and clients hosting as well and they are GREAT. Not sure what you are paying in UK but Arsys has competitive pricing and a wide array of services (just no unlimited bandwidth).

I have 2 ADSL connections, one at home with Terra ( www.terra.es ) and the other with Telefnica ( www.telefonicaonline.com ). Terra belongs to Telefnica so I guess you could say I have both ADLSs with Telefnica.

Maybe I pay 2 or 3 Euros more than some other offers but for me, the professionality of Telefnica is best, I recommend you do it with them.

Remember, ALL the companies here are going to cause you headaches so at least go with the one that works the best, in this case Telefnica.

Saludos,
jer...

Blushing - somehow only managed to see part of that megathread last time - I agree it's pretty thorough, so I will chew on the info for a bit. My own favorite host to date is URL=http://www.oneandone.co.uk]1&1[/URL] who are Europewide and "cheap as chips" for some of their offers.

As my desktop system is a bit big to bring on the bike Eeker I'm about to buy a laptop (don't tell my bank manager). I'm guessing I can get a much better deal here in the UK than in Madrid, unless there any Americans on their way over who happen to have some spare space in their luggage... Wink

- would that include some file transfers if necessary? Big Grin

Only 10 days to go....

Hey Adrian...In our case, we're transferring our ADSL connection with Telefnica from our old academy to our new location and we're keeping the same connection intact. In other words, no we don't have to pay everything all over again. However, Telefnica being Telefnica, they're charging us a fee for this. (About 37 or so)

I for one see it as being totally appropriate to repost this question since, as far as I'm concerned, you're asking the question on a different level as well as from a different perspective(setting up a web server). Regarding the ADSL in Spain primer document that I'd put together for that thread previously (Click Here if you haven't seen it), it's still on my server and accessible, but I didn't update it after that first initial installment. Got busy...Sorry. :b:

In my case, it's a little late for a dating service after 9 years of marital bliss with one of the locals ( Wink ), but I'd be all for starting a mm sponsored web hosting service. If your service is good and reliable (as I'm sure it is Wink ), I for one would be happy to talk to you about hosting my sites as I don't have time to set up my own web server. (One of these days I will... Roll Eyes )

Talk to jer...I imagine you could have a productive lunch conversation on the issue... Wink Big Grin

Tony - I will certainly be plying Jer with drink at some point (and stealing the keys to his flat...he so jammy!)

However, unlike him, I actually need sleep to function properly. Any business empire I build in Spain is going to be some way down the line - I have to get the lingo down first!

Thanks for the extra info tho' and good job on the dossier!

Adrian
