I don't know if you mean travel book or guide book---a hilarious travel book is "Around Ireland with a Fridge", about hitch-hiking with a refrigerator, but I haven't laid hands on it yet.
IF you mean guide book, I'm partial to the DK Eyewitness guides, because they are chockful of gorgeous pictures, useful maps and numbers, as well as basic language, tips on food, etc.
Lent my "Barcelona and Catalonia" guide to a girl on a mission trip there and she's emailed back that it goes with her everywhere.
If there's something or somewhere I'm interested in not covered well in the guide,I check it out on the web and print out a few pages. This can be especially helpful if you rely on public transportation---the Renfe site has all of the rail info, including schedules and prices online. Hope this helps, feel free to message me or email me for anything else.
