Theres a Spanish idiom that says: Abril, aguas mil This means that it is supposed to rain a lot, but you dont usually find cold weather. Between 15 and 20 degrees centigrades more or less. Hope this helps!

Hey Aidah, we have an equivalent in English (at least in the U.S.A.), it is "April showers bring May flowers" martine, bring rain gear just in case but this winter has so far been unusually FREEZING here in Madrid so I guess the weather is pretty unpredictable right now (as if it ever were predictable to begin with ) Saludos, jer...

Hey martine, don't let an "unpredictable" thing like the weather keep you from Madrid. If you don't want to get rained on, don't come at all for it rains all over Spain in April not just in Madrid. Come, have fun and if it rains, put on the raingear and take out the umbrellas Saludos, jer...

Martine, I can understand you might be reluctant to leave a rainy place (Belgium) to visit another possibly rainy place, but be assured that there are so many things to do in Madrid that good weather is not the big factor that it would be, for example, in Los Angeles. My wife Irene and I visited Madrid during early April in 1999 and 2001. Both times the weather was 15-20 degrees, but no rain. Sometimes the weather cooperates, sometimes it does not. Irene and I are returning to Madrid in mid-March, and prefer going in the spring. The airfares are lower priced, the lines at attractions are shorter, and the locals are more relaxed. Rainy or sunny, we will be there!

Jer and Paul, Thanks for your reply. It is silly to not decide to come to Madrid, only for the weather, I know that. But when you live in a very rainy country like ours, and with all the floods we've recently had (our garden is still a big pool, doesn't dry up anymore)... we want to see the sun! We have decided to wait until april and look to the weather forecast. If the weather is gonna be good, we go without booking. That can easily be done, we travel by car... I am shure we'll find a hotel on our way.
