I'm so psyched, I've actually gotten the final goahead (this morning) to take the TEFL in Madrid starting May 26, so I need to find an apt-share, is this possible to do on a month by month basis? since I don't know how long I'll get to stay (after reading the posts about how difficult it is to find work/work visa etc.) my hopes are more realistic(?)
due to this great site I will come a week early to catch the end of the San Isildro festival - so if I arrive by sunday morning - what would be the thing to see-hear-do?
I've been trying to do my research and be as well prepared as possible, (my usual m.o. is to jump in with both feet and ask questions later, jejeje) so the need on my agenda today is how to find a decent inexpensive apt-share close to EBC - address: EBC Servicios Linguisticos Europe SL, Juan Hurtado de Mendoza 5, 6D, 28036 Madrid, I would like to be able to walk to class if possible.. I'll place an ad in the classified, but am not sure where anything is, etc...
thank you in advance for suggestions and comments...can't wait for may!!

Hey erica, sounds like a very cool time you have planned in Madrid

Head over to the PLAZA MAYOR and take in the day!!! That is where all the action will be.
As for month to month apt. shares, in May Madrid is still chock-full-o-students so pickings will be slim, although better than most years if this stupid war keeps going and scaring people from coming to study abroad here
I know that Rocco ("Madrid Insider") can hook people up at a place month to month but do not know much more, surely he will pop in and advise you as he is the housing expert.
Month to month is usually hard since most want a 6 month or 1 yr commitment but since May is closer to June, which is when a lot of landlords get desperate to rent out apts./rooms, you may be ok.
I did look up your school at "Juan Hurtado de Mendoza" #5, CLICK HERE and it just so happens that the month to month place Rocco ("Madrid Insider") can recommend, is a right near the Plaza Castilla, walking distance of EBC
This may be your lucky thread!!!
Oh, keep in mind that even if you do take a month to month place, they will require a 1 month refundable security deposit.
Once again, you are correct, sir!!! The shared flat I like to recommend people to start out with month to month when they first get to Madrid and are not sure how long they would like to stay is located within walking distance of the street sited above. There are also several direct buses that you can catch about a block and a half away. The address of the shared flat is Los Cedros, 91 Bajo A, and is available from month to month or as long as you need it if you choose to stay longer. The price is 350 euros with all utilities plus a DSL internet connection in each room (You will need your own ntework card) and a common computer hooked up to the internet in the lounge all included. It is furnished and well communicated with both Plaza Castilla Metro / Bus stations and Chamartin Metro / Cercania train stations. Call Urbano Carpio at 609-570-055 for your viewing and / or resrvation. Ultimately it is located in a place well communicated enough to get you all around Madrid so you can handle your business and decide what to do next without draining your pocketbook.
Rocco also forgot to mention that there is a DSL connection (B.Y.O.C, Bring Your Own Computer ) in every room. Rocco, is that true? Not sure if I am confusing the places you mention to me at times
you guys are fabuloso!! actually I wasn't clear enough, I'll be arriving towards the end of may possibly as early as the 18th, (I'll purchase my ticket in a day or so - got other plans to firm up) this is closer to june which is will be better since there wont be as many students for finding the month to month? - that place near the school sounds perfect! do I contact them now by fon or should/can I wait till I get there? if I call, what's a good time of day to do that? (I haven't quite figured out what time it is there compared to here :b:
thank you for the map!! and the tip to hang at the plaza for San Isidro....and everything else!!
it is a total shame about what's going on internationally, it took me a few days of falling prey to my fears to decide not to let that interupt my plans to go ahead and decide to go, though I still am a little nervous....
this messageboard is a godsend! ciao! erica
