Hola amigos!
There's a very good chance Irene and I are coming to Spain in March, with a few days in Madrid. (A Costco run for Nutri-Grain bars, etc., would definitely be on the pre-trip agenda. )
We're not sure if would be at the beginning or the end of our trip, because we might be bringing a big box for a friend in Jerez. If so, we'd go directly to Jerez and visit Madrid on the way home, because I'd rather not lug the box to an hostal and around with us for a few days in Madrid before going south.
We have a short time to decide about the trip, so we'll keep you posted.

Well, we are coming to Spain . Just booked the flights. Arrive the afternoon of Saturday March 15, leave early morning on Sunday March 30. Will be surviving on rice and beans for awhile, but it will be well worth it! :jeje:

Hey Paul...I'll pay you a reasonable markup if you bring me a bottle or two of KC Masterpiece - Classic! Remember though, we're earning paltry Euros over here...be kind!
Congratulations...Sure you guys'll have a blast!

I just did a search and found that Las Fallas is March 15-18 2003, so there is a possibility we could make it. I went in 1988, but Irene has never been.

Hey tonytorero, what you talking about man, our "paltry Euros" are worth more than the almighty $ today and have for months.
Paul, you can only bring tonytorero his KC Masterpiece if it does not get int he way of that crate of NutriGrain bars for your favorite Madrid webmaster
Hey man, glad you are coming after all...

... heck, I would eat my old shoes for a while if I were you to be able to come over for 2 weeks
Hey, I have a wedding (not mine) in New York on the 28th of March so ena and I will be heading over to the old homeland for 2 weeks. So as not to freeze her tootsies off (she has already been to NY with me for the month of December ), we will probably leave around March 26th and return to Madrid early in April.
I would still really like to make the Fallas this year (at least the big burn "Nit de la Crem") but am not sure it is in our plans due to the 2 week trip to the U.S.A.
I would like to meet you and Irene Paul so we should get together here in Madrid when you arrive since I will not be around on the 30th when you split for New Mexico.
I know that may put a crimp in your original plan to "go directly to Jerez and visit Madrid on the way home" but if you want, you can store the big box at my place while in Madrid, not a problem (i will even help ya lug it up the 99 steps to my apartment ). We have a pretty big store room here.
By the way, the lovely Spanish lasses up for the ultimate fallera position are at www.lasprovincias.es/fallas2003/principal.htm :l: (click on the pics of the ones you want ot see more on).

It was a joke Citroen Boy!! I was making a bit of an ironic statement since, 1 year ago, we were still earning pesetas (More like 190 to the dollar) wheras now we're earning Euros (More or less even with the dollar)... Knowing the high intellectual level on this board, I didn't really think I'd have to clarify it...

Tony, Jer does win the Nutri-grain vs. KC Masterpiece debate, but we'll see what space we can afford and bring what we can
Anyway, it would be great to see y'all (that's Southwestern for "vosotros"). From what I have read, the Macarena seems like a good place to stay. While we'll probably be in Madrid for a few nights near the end of our trip, we will be in Madrid at least one night at the beginning of our trip: Saturday March 15. We could hook up and do something that night and/or pick pockets at the Rastro the next morning to help pay for extra traveling expenses! :jeje:
Irene suggested we not structure our trip around the big box (if we bring it at all), but rather around what we want to do and who we want to see. Irene's going to try to find out the dimensions of the object to be shipped, so maybe it might not be with us at all.
Irene has said she does want to spend some time in that "Second City", so we are still putting together an itinerary.
Anway, we'll keep you posted!

Irene suggested we not structure our trip around the big box...You got a smart lady there Paul!
Thanks, she is a smartie! I should have also mentioned that the box is for HER friend.
We to find out is if we can arrange that upon arrival at Barajas, the box could be forwarded by air/bus/truck to Jerez. I think this would be the best solution for everyone.
Well, I'm sure we aren't the only people in the world to arrive at an airport and want to send a package on to another location, so it's just a matter of finding out how to do it. I'm going to go to the Barajas website, but if anyone has shipping suggestions (in addition to "bring it to Atocha or Estacion Sur de Autobuses"), please let me know. Thanks!

We found out that the chest is a LARGE one, so it ain't coming with us. Man, do I feel better! I like to help people, but this one is too much for airplane cargo. The only cargo this mule will be carrying to Spain is goodies for my MM pals and some other friends! :jeje:
