Hi All ---

I was wondering if Jer or someone else could recommend some good restaurants in Madrid and Barcelona. We will be in Barcelona for 3 days and Madrid for 3 days. I guess I would like restaurants that offer the cuisine indicative of the region.

Thanks for any and all responses Smiler

Cheers...

Here are a few restaurants I have been to when in Madrid. Although I usually end up making meals of tapas at various bars, I have enjoyed dinner at:

Alkalde :Basque : Expensive :Eat downstairs in the caves.
DIRECCION: Jorge Juan, 10
LOCALIDAD: Madrid
DISTRITO: Salamanca
METRO: Serrano
TELEFONO: 915763359
RESERVAS: 902 28 20 28

Casa Gallega: Galician : Pricey
DIRECCION: Bordadores, 11
LOCALIDAD: Madrid
DISTRITO: Centro
METRO: Sol
TELEFONO: 915419055

La Trucha : My all time favorite! I go every time I'm lucky enough to visit Madrid. It's reasonable, delicious and noisy! Get the Trucha de la casa with bits of ham and garlic..mmmmmmmmmmm....eat outside if you can.
DIRECCION: Nez de Arce, 6
LOCALIDAD: Madrid
DISTRITO: Centro
METRO: Sol
TELEFONO: 915320882

Barcelona:

El Pintor : Pricey but very nice.
DIRECCION: Sant Honorat, 7
LOCALIDAD: Barcelona
DISTRITO: Ciutat Vella
METRO: Hospital de San Pau
TELEFONO: 933014065

I am suggesting these because I have had excellent meals at all of them. Except for La Trucha, they are not cheap. If you treat yourself to a nice dinner, then any of these will not disappoint. Enjoy.

Do any of these sound familiar to you Jer?

A very good restaurant in Madrid, and very nice indeed is the SAMARKANDA. It is in the ATOCHA TRAIN STATION. Meal is excellent and the prices not as high us anybody may guess. The view is wonderfull right to the new garden planted in the rest of the old station. Even if you don't go there to est you can enjoy the place and walk around. Smiler

In Barcelona don't miss "LOS CAARACOLES" in ESCUDELLERS 14 right in the old town. The Paella and the Cazuela are the most famous in Spain. It in not expensive and the restaurant is very nice inside. You will have a very good meal. Good luck. Smiler

My all time favourite is called Maceira, they serve mostly Galician food like pulpo=octopus(only place where I like it!), skate croquettes, chorizo "Creole", pimientos=peppers of Padrn, lacn(a Galician ham), vieiras=scallops, 'empanada', 'arroz marinero', etc....Mmmm!!! Big Grin
The address is calle Jess, 7.

Enjoy!

Take your pick Bubba! There are soooo many great places to eat!

When in Madrid, have lunch one day at the "terraza" (sidewalk caf) of the PLAZA DE ORIENTE. There is a photo of it in full swing HERE!

They have a very nice Men del Da (Menu of the Day) that is ONLY AVAILABLE ON WEEKDAYS for 9 Euros (last time I checked) and the view cant be beat. Having a nice lunch smack dab in front of the ROYAL PALACE Big Grin

Saludos,
jer...

Here's a lovely mouthwatering pic of some pulpo a la plancha I was lucky enough to share with my friend miche on a recent trip to Madrid. It was at pim's favourite restaurant - La Maceira
