"The New Spaniards" is an interesting look at Spanish society from about the early 80's (I like to think of the eighties in Spain like the 60's in the U.S.A., in terms of the "excesses" to the late nineties. I liked the book and could relate to alot of what was written in the book. I concur: The New Spaniards is a very accurate, very complete, yet very readable account of recent and not so recent Spanish history and culture--Totally buy it!

TJ, Driving over Lemons and a Parrot in the Pepper Tree are written by a guy who moved to the Albujarras (sp?) and writes about life amongst the "locals", and the old finca he bought. His claim to fame is that he was actually a member of the band Genesis for a short while. The books are light reading, enjoyable and then easily forgotten!!! Well, IMO anyway! But I did enjoy them!

I think the 'New Spaniards' latest edition goes past 1992, at least it talks about post-expo and olympic years a little. it would be interesting to see another up to date edition come out.
