I will be arriving at MADRID Airport, along with two friends who will be arriving on another air line about 1hr later. I assume there is an "International Arrivals" area, once one has cleared Customs, is there a convenient meeting place ????

Basically, there are tons of places you could meet up.

International arrivals area is DOWNSTAIRS at T1 (Terminal 1 = international terminal).

I used to meet my clients at the Hertz rental car counterin terminal 1 (international). The rental car counters are mid-way between the 2 "salas" (lounges 1 and 2) where people come out of the secure zone after collecting their luggage.

There is also a "farmacia" (pharmacy, druggist, chemist, etc...) right there in the internationals arrivals area and you could meet outside that.

I guess since you know what flight they are arriving on (right?), you could also just greet their flight and wait outside the lounge they are to arrive at. The flight monitors show either "Sala 1" (usually for flights originating outside the EU) or "Sala 2" (usually for flights originating inside the EU) when a plane is to land. You can easily "mosey" on over to the corresponding "Sala" and wait for them when you they come out.

So many choices of places to meet.

Yes Laidback but the problem is there is MORE THAN 1 in each terminal and they do not say "MEETING POINT 1", "MEETING POINT 2", etc... They all just say "MEETING POINT" Eeker

This is why it is easier to pick a different meeting place.

Bars are still good places. Since I travel solo, I usually meet myself at the one just to the right outside the doors leading to the METRO. No bargain prices, though, on vino.

It's a decent place to gather your thoughts and develop a plan of attack.
