You're brave if you're serious about doing that!! There are no direct trains. One option is this: Granada-Madrid: departure 7:55; arrival 13:47 Madrid-Bilbao: departure 15:19; arrival 21:25 That means 11 hrs, 58 min in a train. I love trains (I've spent almost 24 hours to get to Amsterdam from Madrid by train), but if you don't love them, this can be too much. Anyway, try the Renfe website to check timetables. (If you don't like trains, may be you can reach Bilbao from Granada in just 10-11 hours by coach.)

3 weeks in Madrid sounds good to me Seriously though singh, I think you are trying to see the North and South and spreading yourself too thin. For a first trip to Spain, if you are flying into Madrid and out of Barcelona, perhaps it would be better to do Madrid and then go North and save the South for your next Spain trip (you WILL definitely be back ). You could do a Southern route on your next trip flying into and out of Madrid. Also, Max is right about the trains, the Spanish rail system is not very Granada-Barcelona friendly. Just my opinion. Saludos, jer... p.d. I once spent 54 hours on a bus from a New York to Denver Colorado to go skiing, never again but the busses in Spain are many times better and faster than rail travel.
