anyone been there done that? I have always wanted to go, but never had...am considering it for this August (its in August correct??). Just curious if any of you other party animals have experienced this one of a kind festival in Buol and if you can recommend websites, hostals, etc...
On the last Wednesday of August, at the peak of tomato season, the village of Bunol, Spain stages a tomato war. For two hours, the otherwise sober citizenry happily pelt each other with ripe, red fruit and the streets turn into rivers of tomato juice.
After much laughter, spirited mischief and camaraderie, friends and neighbors gather in the town square for the food and wine festivities. They call it 'La Tomatina'.
Bummer ...I'm going to be in California and Kansas City. I'd love to 'road trip' with you guys to do that! If you go, try and get ahold of jer's digital camera if you guys can't convince him and ena to go with you. I'd like to see pictures of that!

CHICA (ehem Asterault) is pleased to announce that she passed her on the road portion of the drivers exam here in Madrid A LA PRIMERA!
Quite a unique experience in all getting my drivers license here because I too, know how to drive DAMMIT (I have the autoescuela books if you want to borrow them Asterault... also check out TODOTEST). I suppose I should start another thread with the wonderful experience it has been. Now the driving school will award me with my license dentro de un par de semanas with a lovely green placard with a big fat "L" that I can proudly display in the back window of my car for the next month warning everyone near me that they just might get run over!
Back to the t matina... yes Rachel, would love to go, just checked my calendar and Mom and Dad leave the day before in the AM...maybe we could leave in the afternoon? I might be able to round up some Valencian friends to go with us!
T matina it is!! The funmobile leaves on Tuesday evening (still tentative) and returns on Wednesday evening. I am going with my cuaaaaaada and anyone else who is interested in joining us. We havent decided who is driving...is it she? is it me? is it Mr. Chica a.k.a Chico...? Still firming up details.
One friend from Valencia will meet us there... still working on the others.
Sorry Rachel23 that we wont be headed to Valencia city (as much as Id love to). I am squeezing my agenda just to get to the T matina this year. I have to be back to take care of business and my cuaaaaada has to be back to work. :lo:
Recommended gear for the worlds largest tomato fight: swimming goggles (conjunctivitis runs rampant if you are not protected), clothes that you plan on throwing away (old t-shirt, shorts, etc.), sports bras for the ladies (unless you are brazilian and enjoy showing off your bodacious ta-tas) because your t-shirt will be ripped off you, waterproof camera. Dont bring anything into the t matina that you dont want destroyed!!
Any other takers out there? Yes, jer, well take pics for the website!
