Madrid Tavels Been to Madrid three times since 9/11, and only danger was during the November '02 cab ride from Barajas to Plaza Santa Ana....strongly suspect the cabbie had been partying more than I. The next trip is in a few weeks over Dos de Mayo.....the way I figure it, if any of us get stranded due to international circumstances we can all move in with Jer and become pick pockets at Sol. quote: "Do any of you feel at all unsafe in madrid being an American?"
I have to agree with Jer... NO!!!! I feel a lot safer here than I ever did in Los Angeles or San Diego. I would never walk alone at night in these places and here I do. And I do not feel scared saying I am American. People here do know that it is our government and not the citizens who make the (crappy) decesions. I am very sad that payamadrid and friends cancelled their trip. But San Diego is a cool place to be too; although Madrid is far cooler (minus the beach). Hey payamadrid, if you want any suggestions on what to do and where to go in SD, let me know. I lived there for 3 years, just before moving to the safe and extermely fun Madrid! cheers to Madrid!!!!

payamadrid, why on earth would you pick San Diego over Madrid? I have lived in San Diego a very long time and there is NO comparision.
Actually Jer, mi esposo and I have actually decided today, that we are moving up our trip home (Madrid) from July to April, screw the bloody war, I am not going to live in fear. I actually don't feel very safe here in S.D., being a military "target"...I mean "town" and all.
If administration will let me have an extra week (I'm going to ask tomorrow) then we will book our flight tomorrow night! Please have your positive Madrid travel thoughts for us tomorrow! Shawn, rub off some of your beautiful energy my way so that taking an extra week for Spring break won't be a big deal for my boss.
Jer, I'll let you know if i'm going for sure in April so we can finally meet you and Ena!!!
