I'm a 62 year young single male who will be visiting Madrid for 5 days in late October. I know virtually no Spanish (shame on me) [Embarassed] and would appreciate input on how to survive. Any thoughts on: eating out, shopping, sights to see, places to go, customs, how best to conduct myself etc... Will be probably staying at Los Amigos Hostel. Also do I have to bring a copy of my prescriptions with me in case of loss, and if I lose any meds can I get them replaced? with regards to the meds I should point out that I though I live in the USA I travel on a British passport, but am not up to date on EU medical coverage.

Colin,
Its always useful to bring a copy of your medication needs with you. Most pharmacists will be able to help if they have the generic name of the things you need. But as you are only in Madrid for 5 days, I doubt that you are likely to need their help!!!!

All the rest of the things you ask about will be found on the search facility. Loads of places to see, eat, drink etc etc. Just have fun and enjoy Madrid!!!

Colin- tell your dr that you're going and see if he can give you some extra days for your meds. also DO NOT PACK THEM IN YOUR CHECK IN LUGGAGE!

Medications should go with you, in your carryon. I work for an airline and you would not BELIEVE the people that pack important (some times life depends on it- literally) in their check in luggage! If it gets delayed or whatever for whatever reason your well SOL. So keep it on your person! Smiler
