Hi there,

Just wondering if going to Mallorca in mid. September is advised. I've heard that the weather is max. average 26 or 27C. Is this correct?

Any feedback about weather in Sept. or Palma in general would be appreciated.

hiya!!
i'm from mallorca...so i know a bit of this!
it sounds a bit stupid but.. whereabouts of the island are you going? it depends if u are going to be on the north, in the mountains or in the south-east!
mid sept can be tough to describe, as the summer is quite reliable that is going to be hot, mid sept usually is quite warm at day-time but cooler at nights. the sea temperature is the best (at least for those who like the mediterranean to be quite warm!) ...but again, it depends on which part of the island u are going to stay. maybe u have some rainy or cloudy days....but it's much better weather than the first weeks of sept. when we have a sort of monsoon rains...by mid-sept they are over(or at least they should be!)
so tell m where ur staying and if u need anymore info!

besiitos!

Hi starwars,

She is in fact Specifically asking about Palma Mallorca.
From what I have heard from others, I don't think it will be too hot this year, but certainly it will be very warm, as will the sea water.

Cheers - Nigel.

well, my experience is that most people get confused with mallorca and palma and for instance in santa pona wich is a town 15 away from palma where i lived for some years, they have a totally different weather...don't ask me why! it's suppossed to have a micro-climate or something like that (sorry if doesn't make any sense...i've translated it right from spanish) and could be raining in palma but sunny and warm in santa pona!
is quite a small island but has more things that meet the eye!!!

:lo: (was the saying like that???) i have to stop reading lord of the rings! Red Face

when i lived there we used to go to the beach (ok, on sunny days...but that were the usual days anyway!) from march-april (v. cold water!) until the second week of october ...more or less...

so yes, definetely you'll be able to swim in sept!!! (if it's sunny) Wink

well ok great...I feel a little better now.

So what type of crowd can we expect there? Mainly tourists or locals?

What about shopping? What are some must-have finds in Palma?

ok, really it depends, again on where are u staying and to which beaches you plan to go. i would advise to rent a car so u have freedom of movement.
mallorca is nothing like ibiza for instance with the "hippie" stalls and all that. it's much more classic (being the main shopping area in palma jaime III street & surroundings) but something really interesting is the street market on Inca, a very ugly village on the middle of the island known for the shoes & leather. it has as well many factories of well known and high quality shoes (REALLY, i've seen some shoes in london made in mallorca,in jk bennet, for 100 pounds and 2 weeks later in mallorca for 40 eur...exact same shoes!) that you can buy at 70% off.
the market on the "plaza" (stalls) i believe is on thrsdays or sundays...can't remember. check it out 'cose is worth it (also the typical things like vegetables, animals...well it's not a tourist market but expect tourists around) important!!! beware of your valuables on those places...if you look tourist and in a market like this one you could be pick-pocketed in secs. (it's not dangerous, don't get me wrong, but better be safe than sorry!)

anything to buy in particular???? i'll do my best to give an insight of a REAL mallorquina, 'cose you don't want to go to the souvenir-kind-of-place, do you?

besiitos!

Thanks for the details re. shopping...yes, i've heard Spain is known for shoes!!

What about tourists in Sept.? What age group can we expect? What type of night life is offered?

Which beaches do you recommend and why?
Again, my main concern is the weather. I'm really hoping for alot of sun. Do you really think its advisable to visit in Sept.?

Thanks again Smiler

YES, i would advise going in sept. but can't guarantee every day of sun (let say if u stay for 10 days you'll probably have 7 days sunny and 3 cloudy but not cold...at worst!)and in the sunny days...you'll get enough sun, trust me!

tourists, except spanish families that usually go july or aug. are from all ages and nacionalities, again not super crowded but enough not to be alone on the pub!
i'm afraid I know the nightlife for spanish people...not that tourists are not allowed or something but i always found very odd that most foreigners that come to mallorca want to go to pubs that serve their own food with people of their own nacionality...i just don't get the point!!! why do they travel abroad?? Mad
so, if you want real mallorcan nightlife (which doesn't fluctuate that much as we live there) first you should go to the bars or pubs in the paseo maritimo, with terrazas etc..then at 3-4 when those close you could choose between pacha (this is my favorite..but has nothing to do with pacha ibiza o pacha madrid, people around twentysomethings)or Tito's (one of the best known, a bit younger people but lots of twenty somethings as well) or Mar salada, in the inside of the club de mar (a yacht club) this last one is quite full of "pijos" ie: is where prince felipe used to go when he was in palma...although i supposse not now that he is married! and there is where u could find the bigger age scale, from 20 until...erm, well, 60 really (viejos verdes!)

i suggest you start at the first bars of the paseo maritimo and then walking and poping to the ones u find lively, you'll get to pacha-mar salada-titos...all v. close to each other. you won't need to move by car during the night but be warned that getting a taxi at 6 in the morning (even at 7) it's quite impossible! Mad

cheers!
