Hi!

I was living in Mallorca for 6 months (fron July to Dec.) and I remember good weather in summer, a lot of rain in October and a two week mini-summer at the beg inning of Nov. I think is a good time to go to Palma and not beeing like "sardinas en lata" in the beach.
Good beaches near Palma: CalaMajor near Porto Pi, Cala Gamba, Playa del Arenal y Can Pastilla, and going to the south maybe Cala Pi and Es Trenc (if you dont want to spend money in bikinis).

Eeker

Enjoy the summer!

ok, well, i'm not so keen on those beaches, specially on september...why? they are on palma bay and, yeah they are really convenient, but on sept the water can be a bit dirty. If you want a beach near palma, try illetas beach, there are like 3 of them and the good thing is that they have various locations... Mad , what i mean is that the wind blows south, for instance, all the dirt goes to the southern beaches but on illetas you have in like 2 min walk, a east facing beach and a west...that way you can always swim in totally clean and transparent water wihtout cheking out first where does the wind blow.

totally right the es trenc thing though, is my favorite beach...is 5 km long, and the nudist part is like 1 km so not to worry if you don't want to see them probably you wont see anything! (i usually go to the nudist part, totally dressed, mind, as well as my friends, and nobody cares we are not naked, is just that on that place is quite deserted and there are no kids running around! Wink )

Another great beach, but on the other side of the island, near cala ratjada, is cala agulla like es trenc, it has no buildings just dunes and trees Roll Eyes bright blue water like i haven't seen again and is not a very hot beach, always a cool breeze!! the problem is that the roads are quite old so it can get up to 1 hour and a half 2 get there, if you go to spend the day, trust me, is worth it!!! however it is a "german" beach, the last time i went there the guy in the chiringuito invited me and my friends to the cokes we ordered as we were the first spanish people he saw in one week!!! Mad

well, must say is not the first time it happened.

try costa de los pinos as well, nice sandy beaches!

two quite close to palma beaches that are "english" are santa ponsa ..(actually half english half german) and palma nova (100% english)
the two first ones i recommended are "spanish" beaches.

you must go as well to formentor beach, in the north but if the weather is nice, and has a bit to sightsee as well (great mirador)

the rest of the north coast are tiny peebles beaches, if u want to see one of those try lluc alcari (this is a reaaaally insider info!) u have to walk through a property (legally, don't worry) for 20 min and then on the beach there are this "barros" (mud??) u cover yourself with and there are supposed to b great for the skin or something...i did it once and i was much softer!
hope that helped!!!!

besiiitos! Big Grin

This is the hotel that we may be staying at. Is it a good location? Which beaches are closest to this hotel?

hey TOGirl75, if you look at that web page for the hotel you posted and scroll to the bottom, there is a link that reads "Click here for Location Map" (shows the closest beaches).

saludos,
jer...

hey TOgirl75!
you'll be staying in magalluf...the english-iest city if mallorca. the beach it's not bad, and really close by, if you go walking through the "paseo" you get to palmanova beach...quite nice as well. in magalluf there is this huge disco called BCM...again, full of english people (well i use english people as english speaking people of course, not only from england) i've been there some times..it's ...well...if u have nothing better to do it can be fun! I don't know if u are going just-girls or as a couple, or with your family...in magalluf there is this place called punta ballena that can be a bit unconfortable...there are lots of drunk guys, they start drinking at noon so imagine how they are at night! and some of them can be...ok, they are so drunk they think they are robert redford...but they look like johnny vegas, so they can be quite tough to get rid of as some of them don't want a no 4 an answer!( i'm not saying spanish guys are not like that! it's just that when they get to that level of drunkeness its much later, so you are a bit "tipsy" as well and is easier to tell them to f*** off! and of course for me (spanish) is much easier to communicate in swearing spanish than in english)

if u plan to go to palma "nightlife" prepare to pay 4 the taxi like 12-17 eur to get back to magalluf...again it depends on what you want to do.
magalluf is very "peculiar" for us as most supermarkets and groceries stores have all english brands...quite handy for me actually that i love english food (yes...I know) and most restaurants serve sheperd's pie :s: bangers & mash with gravy :s: apple crumble :s: ....oh god, i'm getting hungry!!
anyway, just a recommendation, if u want to eat real mallorcan food try any of the restaurants in Genova...between palma and magalluf, there's one called can pedro quite nice, with good price-quality. but all of the restaurants around are good. and they are a bit touristic so u can communicate in english and probably they'll have a menu in english, but spanish people go there as well. :s:

the other beaches i mentioned on the previous post...i'm afraid you can't go if you don't have a car! Confused

Yeah, it could probably go either way around that time.

You can take a look at rain averages and get an idea. In madrid it certainly October is one of the rainest months...

Arenal is pretty close from Palma and you have buses that take you back and forth all day long. The area is OK, it varies a lot though, some buildings are nice, and some are that typical overdeveloped spanish tourist area.
