Hello everyone!

would you please advise me which youth hostel in Madrid would you recommend? I will be there for one night and since i arrive late, I am searching for something safe, close to the metro, and cheap.

I have no idea as i have never been there. Any advice?

gracias!

Hi Svet, welcome to the board.

If ya ask me there is only one game in town for that kind of late night arrival...LOS AMIGOS BACKPACKERS HOSTEL Big Grin

As you know, most of the youth hostels that are state run and cost under 10 (Euros) per night are in the outskirts of the city, making them hard to arrive at.

They also usually have a lock out time and not a 24 hour reception.

The new Los Amigos Backpackers Hostel is 15 (Euros) per night, 6 beds to a room and is super clean and central. It is a 2 minute walk from the "Opera" Metro stop and just 10 minutes walk from either the Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol.

The best part is that they have a 24 hour checkin/out and no lock out curfew Big Grin

Their website is at www.losamigoshostel.com and you can even see their webcam live at reception 24/7 Smiler

If you are coming after April 1st, you can also enter to win 2 free nights there at my hostels section at www.multimadrid.com/accommodations since my first drawing is on April 1st .

Be sure to make a reservation even for only one night, the place opened in January and has 42 beds but they are almost always full.

Saludos,
jer...

Hi again.

It is a very safe place and the rooms even have lockers for your valuables if you want one.

As I said in my post above, you need to reserve and the earlier the better. Do not wait till a day or too before, make a reservation a week or 2 early to guarantee a bed, seriously! Reserve now!

OK, I read your advice here, and also took the pano-tour of Los Amigos. Here's the deal: I snore so badly that I use a C-PAP machine at night, necessitating an electrical outlet. If I were to sleep without it in a hostel, people would quite possibly murder me in my bed, just to be able to sleep.

So, what's my next best bet? The HI affiliate is about 2K from the Plaza Mayor(1.2miles?)but I'm sure I would have the same problem with shared room. There's not much info on it on the HI website. Some "youth" hostels(no wisecracks) also have a few doubles/family rooms. Any idea if this one at Santa Cruz de Marcenado 28 has?

What's the cheapest decent single room around? I think the Gran Duque runs about $30 per night, but
that sort of violates my "sleep cheap" motto.

Pack light, sleep cheap, eat well.
