I am moving in with a family in Torrelodones and I am wondering if anyone has any info about this part of Madrid. I hear it's lovely, but I really know very little else.
Thanks!

I have moved this thread to the "preparing and planning tu spain trip" forum since the "jeremy's multimadrid.com" forum you posted in is really only for feedback on the site.
Hmmmmmmm... I am afraid we are not going to get much feedback on Torrelodones since the first thread you started HERE was not very popular
There is also another thread on Torrelodones HERE and it got a few responses but nothing major either.
Sorry I can't help you much on the town as I have never been there. Being a central city boy I only know where it is and how to get there but have never had any real interest in going.
Mind if I ask how and why you decided to settle down there?
Saludos, jer...
p.d. where are all the "Torrelodonians" when we need them
thanks anyway for the support. I really didn't choose to go to Torrelodones. I would much prefer to be in the city, but the program that I'm going through placed me there with a family. The program is not really expensive and it sounds like the family situation is a good one, but I would still rather be closer to downtown. Anyway, it's really just to get myself established for a more permanent situation. I am pretty scared because I don't have a job yet or any kind of a social life, but I'm hoping that through the In-Madrid site, I can start a life right away. What do you think? In the meantime, the family and I are doing a language exchange, and so I'm not having to worry about room and board. Thanks!

Kristy, My daughter, Clare, just got placed in a similar situation. Language exchange/au pair, but she got lucky and is in the city. When are you leaving/arriving in Spain? The two of you may be able to hook up---since it seems you have the same goal!

I would be the "Clare" that ToniG was talking about. She's my mom, but I sometimes don't like to admit it. I'm going to be in the city of Madrid from Aug 28th through Nov 21st. I'm staying with what seems like a "wealthy" family in the eastern part of the town. I'd love to meet up with some people around the city, maybe I should e-mail you?
I'm going to be staying with the family as a "language assistant" I'm suppose to tutor their children English, but I've talked to the mother and she seems happy enough to try to teach me Spanish (some how...)
Anyway, the point of this post was suppose to be about, well, I don't know what... but, letting you know the dates I'll be in Madrid, maybe we can discuss language teaching?

I am so excited to hear from you both! I am not too devastated to be in Torrelodones, as I hear that it is a great little place and easy to get to from the city. I would love to meet up with you when I arrive on September 5th. That first week, I'll be trying to build my social life and if you are around and available, let's hang out! You can e-mail me at wonderland30@yahoo.com and we can even chat before we get there. I have been to Madrid before and I speak pretty fluent Spanish. This is good! I'm excited! Talk to you soon!

Hi, Torrelodones is pretty far from the city center and you will definitely need a car to get into the city proper. I have a friend from there and the area is full of nice spacious homes owned by well to do families, so most likely that will be the situation you are going into, not bad. I also remember there being a nightclub out there, 'O Madrid" but i'm dating myself as I haven't been out that way of Madrid since 1990. Wherever you end up staying is inconsiguential (sp?) as far as I'm concerned as you are in Spain and that is all that matters, no?
Have a great time, and report back to us on your life there!

Torrelodones is what many Americans would call a suburb of Madrid. Its about 30km (+/- 15 miles) north of downtown Madrid in the Sierra de Madrid... a highly coveted place to live. There is a major highway (A-6 aka Carretera de A Corua) as well as bus and train transportation to the city. The town is comprised of flats as well as row, twin and single homes (chalets). Any suburb north of Madrid is generally considered well to do.
I have never been to Torrelodones, but drive past it everyday and seems to be a quaint town!
Thanks for all your great info on Torrelodones. I already feel like I have support in Madrid and I haven't even moved there yet. Can't wait to meet you all when I do (Sept. 5th).
Cheers!
