Help, I have looked all over the site for things to do, places to see in Salamanca. I am going this Sunday just for the day, 8 hours really. What should I see in hours? I have been told to go to the University and a catherdral. Is there a main area, or something I must NOT miss?

Go check out the site, it is great and very complete. Sometimes ya gotta go further than multimadrid to get info like that, BLASPHEMY Big Grin Wink Red Face

As Paul said, Plaza Mayor is a must do and don't miss...

CASA DE LAS CONCHAS
C/ Compaa, 2 Telf. 923 26 93 17

Pretty much everything in the old city is beautiful.

Check the page HERE for all the monuments Cool

Don't forget to look for the "rana" (frog) on the sid of the University, it is an obligatory "chorrada" Wink (silly thing to do) when visiting Salamanca.

quote:
ENGLISH (more or less Big Grin )

quote:
The emblematic image of the university is the plateresque altarpiece type stone carving in front of the patio of the "Escuelas Mayores" (upper schools). There is a statue of Fray Luis de Len in the patio as well. The early 16th century stone facade is a delightful work of art that not only awakens the admiration of art lovers but also attracts the curious who can't seem to stop examining it until they find the frog.

p.d. last time I was there (a few yrs. ago, the frog was pretty worn down by the elements. Looked more like a bump Frowner

We had a great time there last fall. But in 8 hours?!?! We spent a day and a half and felt like we missed stuff! We walked throughout most of the old town, which took a full day! When I read Jer's post I felt bad that we forgotten to find the frog!! But since we probably would not have recognized it I feel a little better!

just got back from Salamanca. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! Eight hours walking around and my size 41 feet are aching but happy! It did rain in the afternoon, but the rest of the day was super sunny. We saw processions for Semana Santa. The guys dressed up in white robes scared me a bit, since they looked like KKK members!!! And I did see the frog! Who hoo! and I went to Casa de Conchas, Plaza Mayor (looks like the one here in Madrid but no horse and no acordian player), the Catedral Vieja, the outside of the Palace since it was closed, Puente Romana bridge and had a picnic on the grass, Convento de San Esteban, and walked and walked and walked. I'm pooped but very satisfied.

Thanks for your suggestions all, they really helped me plan my busy day! I will send pictures when I am not so tired!
