Well, after weeks - ok, half a year - of begging my parents (especially strict dad) to let me go study in Spain, they have finally said "yes"...that caught me off-guard, too! (me= Eeker )

Is it really hot in July in Salamanca, or the "oven" turns on in August? I grew up in the Caribbean, so I'm used to the heat, therefore I'm sure I won't mind. In fact, I LOVE IT! Big Grin I'm very "frolera", so it's perfect!

I just want to have an idea of what kind of clothes I should pack? tank tops? what are the "nice" clothes for going out at night? (I hear that jeans are not really for "clubbing", like it is here in the USA, is it true?)A sweater for nighttime? I've been looking at a lot of webpages of pictures of students that have gone on trips - and they all seem to wear the GAP-y clothes (clean, easy to match styles, comfortable, yet not "frumpy" looking). Very american!. But it also looks very sporty-like. I wanted more of something that I can wear from the classroom to the bars.

I'm only going to be there for a month Frowner but a month is better than nothing!

Also, what are the cool places (aside from the well-known sites) that I can go check out? And any stores I should "invest" some of my money into (i'm reeeeeally looking forward to that!)- or do I have to go to Madrid or another city for clothes?

I can't wait! Any information that you guys might have about Salamanca, please don't be afraid to post! I want to start planning now... and not wait until the last minute (cause I always somehow manage to forget things!).

Thanks in advance!

Hey Cotorrita_Stacey, congrats on nagging your parents into submission Big Grin

A lot of questions in that post there, I will do the best I can.

Salamanca is hot in July but not quite as hot as in August (close though) but it packs out with foreign students nonetheless as it is a truly beautiful and amazing city Smiler I would say that the "oven" turns on in mid-July(ish).

Dressing in light colors will make things more bearable, not to mention drinking lots of cool Sangra Big Grin

I would say pack as you would for Madrid. Do not worry about standing out there for during Salamanca suummers, the SPANIARDS are the minority and hence the opnes that stand out Big Grin Wink Red Face

Tank tops will scream "guiri" but they are acceptable in the heat otf the summer. The Spaniards are very fashion conscious and no matter how hot it gets, they prefer to be "fashion" than comfotable.

You heard right about jeans.

I myself am a HUGE GAP FAN so I would always recommend their clothes, for anywhere.

Cotton is good as it breathes and you will need that.

I have never shopped for clothes there myself but being such a huge University town, Salamanca will have many of the same stores as Madrid or any other city.

If you do a SEARCH [search] for "shopping for clotheing" at my SEARCH PAGE, you will get some good results.

Amongst others, the thread at www.multimadrid.com/ubbgrfx/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=000066 will lead you to other threads on clothes shopping.

Also, try doing a SEARCH on "Salamanca" and then combing through the results. I did and got a lot of good info.

Saludos,
jer...
