Your web site on Madrid is a credit to you. Maybe you can help me,

My husband and I, will be arriving by boat at Barcelona on Sat. 14th May.

We plan to travel that day to Madrid by train and have booked into the

Asturias Hotel in Madrid the same day.

Could you 1) tell me how you would go about traveling from the cruise terminal Barcelona

To the hotel in Madrid.

2) the actual address of the Asturias Hotel in Madrid , so I can find it on your map

I think it is approx. 200 meters from the Puerto del Sol.

Hoping you can help

hi marcas36, welcome to the board.

1) never been to the cruise terminal in bcn so maybe someone who has can pop in and help you out. you could always get a cab from there to the train station (BARCELONA-SANTS) to catch your train to madrid.

once you arrive in madrid, you can get either a cab or the metro to the hotel. most trains from barcelona arrive at ATOCHA station in madrid (except the train-hotel which arrives at CHAMARTIN station in the north of the city).

if you arrive at ATOCHA: take metro line 1(light blue) directly to the "SOL" stop.

WALKING FROM SOL: walk down the street that heads off of the puerta del sol towards the plaza de las cortes (street is called "carrera de san jernimo"). 200 meters walking and you will find the "plaza de canalejas", look across the plaza and to your left(ish) and up, the hotel asturias is right there.

a cab from ATOCHA station to the hotel asturias should cost no more than 10 euros (whatever the meter reads + the 2 euro train station supplement).

if you arive at CHAMARTIN station: take metro line 10 (dark blue) from the station to the "PLAZA CASTILLA" stop and chenge there to line 1 (light blue) which will take you to "SOL" as mentioned above. from the puerta del sol, follow the "WALKING FROM SOL" directions above to the hotel.

a cab from CHAMARTIN station to the hotel asturias should cost no more than 15 euros (whatever the meter reads + the 2 euro train station supplement).

if you are coming around the holidays, cab fare can go up quite a bit due to the holiday traffic and the fact that it will take longer to get from the respective stations to the hotel.

see www.metromadrid.es for metro lines, trajectories, maps, etc... (available in inglish and spanish).

2) the hotel asturias is at calle sevilla n2, right off the puerta del sol and on the plaza de canalejas. you can see a map and get directions from their website at www.hotel-asturias.com/index.english.html .

saludos,
jer...

Hi. yes jer is right, you should take a cab from 'Port Vell' (which is where the cruise ships dock) to Barcelona Sants Station, you will not have much change left out of about 20 Euro's for two people plus luggage, but you don't want to even think about shlapping your luggage around on the Metro or busses, believe me I've done it, and it sucks. Just pay the cab and relax, and you'll be at the station in 30 mins.

Good luck. oh, and by the way, if anyone is interested, I've got loads of fotos of the Port Vell area, taken over the last few years or so. Most from the top of Montjuic, high above the Port and Barcelonetta, and while going over the port on the cable car, and pics of some cruise ships docked there. I got a few more in September this year, while I was up there, some really good shots of the port and the 'Med' from high up there, and from the upper parts of the Castle while on the roof terrace, (El Castillo de Montjuic). So if anyone wants a few, send me your e-mail addy, and I'll send a few.

Cheers .......Santiago
