Hey Bradshawgirl, never been to Paris so can't compare but I have heard Madrid is milder in winter. As I said, by layering you can't go wrong. Ok, I would have done it the other way around and stayed in Salamanca and then day tripped to Segovia and/or Avila but since you have already made your reservations in Segovia, you can day trip to Salamanca and/or Avila from there. Salamanca and Avila are both great and as hard as it is to choose one over the other, I would do Salamanca if I could only do one on my first Spain trip. Not to worry if you miss the other since you WILL be back Saludos, jer...

I've been to Paris in January, and Madrid in December. They were in different years so I don't know how well I can compare the two, but I thought Paris was colder. I remember I took the metro everywhere in Paris because it was too cold, but walked everywhere in Madrid.

I think it'll be ok, then. In Paris, I brought gloves, hat, coat, and scarf, but hardly used anything except the coat. (Except when we took the Seine cruise . . . Brrrr!) I'll bring sweaters and long-sleeves, though, so that I can layer as suggested.
We were planning on a day-trip to Toledo. Should we book this through a touring agency or try to do it on our own? As well, we were thinking of booking a wine and tapas tour, maybe one with flamenco. What are your suggestions on that? Any particular tours that are better than others?
