I can't speak for young people like Jer, but Spanish people dress perhaps a bit more formally than Americans. As for colors, I'd say let practicality be the key. Khaki is fine. Black is always stylish, but it does absorb the heat of the sun, which will be strong when you're in Spain. As for shoes, I don't have the skill or the desire to wear high heels on cobblestones! I splurged for my last trip and bought a pair of Mephisto open-toed ankle strap sandals in black----heaven on your feet and still look dressy. Did I miss anything, Jer?
Pack light, sleep cheap, eat well.

Hi Spanish Eyes, jer here. Your post would get more answers if it were in the *preparing and planning "tu" spain trip* forum. I guess you did not see it. Anyway, Sue is right, it is HOT, HOT, HOT here in Spain (Madrid has hit 33 degrees)and it is only June. I would dress cool. As for the customs, again, as Sue has said above, the Spanish (as do the Europeans in general) dress a bit more formally (actually "better" is more like it) than most Americans. Just because I say that, do not be afraid to be yourself! There is soooo much tourism here that you will not stand out. Unless you go around with 3 cameras (video, normal, and digital) taking photos of absolutely EVERYTHING and waving around a wad of $100 bills, you will be fine. I am sure you will choose your wardrobe wisely. Casual but smart is the best way to got (god! I sound like a JCrew catalogue, yuckoooo!). Take care and be sure to report back about your trip, jer...
