Hi all, I have started this thread in order to keep Thanksgiving seperate from the HALLOWEEN IN MADRID THREAD and avoind a loooong thread that could become confusing as the years go by.

Originally posted by pim on page 1 of the Halloween thread...

quote:
"But you know what this means, no? Maybe we should start planning a Thanksgiving dinner!
Who's up to go to La Gamella for some yummy turkey and some pumpkin pie? Mmmmm!"
Yeah, Richard does a Turkey Day dinner every year at his restaurant but at 35 Euros per head (not including drink or I.V.A. tax of 7%) I am going to pass on it. We are 4 (Ena, myself, her sister and her boyfriend) and that adds up to a whopping 140 Euros for din din at la Gamella. Also, kids are the same price.

Also thought of going with pim's idea and having a multimadrid thanksgiving dinner there but kids would go and the 35 Euro dinner is the same price for tykes Eeker Confused Personally, I think Richard should have a kiddies price as well since there is no way the little ones will eat the same as the big ones Big Grin

Anyone interested in going ther however should make a res. ASAP (phone 91 532 4509) for I spoke with Richard a week ago and he said that there are 4 seatings (1:30pm, 3pm, 8:30pm and 10pm) and they are all pretty full up.

I also dislike the idea of having to eat & run since one seating has to be out by the time the next enters. An hour and a half for me is just not a relaxed thanksgiving meal. Prefer to relax, eat and chill for a while with a bit of "sobremesa" Smiler

I saw an ad in InMadrid this month for "bluefish", a relatively new restaurant run by 2 American ladies here in Madrid. They apparently have an international cuisine and even do a real American brunch on Sunday's Cool

They too are having a Thanksgiving menu and it may be an option as well.

I just called and was told by an employee that they are deciding on a menu/price and that one of the owners would get back to me today. Will update here when they call me.

bluefish is at Calle San Andrs #26 (just off Plaza del Dos de Mayo, Metro "Tribunal").
Tel.: 91 448 67 65

I learned about bluefish from member "Rachel" and her review of it on THIS THREAD

Saludos,
jer...

Hey Rachel, you rule!!! I was just thinking of doing a potluck (everyone brings a different dish for all) at someones house and am glad you have ofered yours as our place may be too small.

You do realize that we could possibly get like 20 people signed up, are you sure your place could handle that?

I will be glad to organize through my site if someone is willing to provide a venue.

You see, I do not like the idea of the restaurant thing either since even bluefish is getting 30 Euros per head (although they did say they could probably give us a multimadrid big table discount as well as a lower price for a kids meal Big Grin ) for dinner that night Eeker

Hi Jer!

My house will be fine for 20 people, more will be too many.

Please can you organize everything for me?

So everyone is invited to my house for Thanksgiving day.

Salu2,

Rachel

Hey, you guys sound like you will have a great Thanksgiving!
My only Thanksgiving in Madrid was way back when in 1979!! My friends and I went to Foster's Hollywood ( near Quevedo---is it still there?)and had a turkey dinner. We had a really fun time, and my mom came in from NYC to be the "token " mom ...it was a memorable Thanksgiving! Your plan sounds great ...have a wonderful celebration!

Hi gang, been working on this.

As you may know by now, Raquel has most generously
offered up her place to celebrate Thanksgiving dinner this year in Madrid on Nov. 28th Big Grin

Her apt. is not huge and not tiny but just right so we can only really get 20 in for the funfest.

This is going to be first come first serve (literally :) so e-mail me at jeremy@multimadrid.com if you are in. I will advise on this thread when the party is full up.

This will be what we Americans call a "potluck dinner". It consists of each person preparing a plate and bringing it to the dinner to share with all who attend.

So, when you e-mail me, also tell me what dish you wish to bring for the dinner. The Mega Turkey and drinks are already taken care of by Me, Ena, Carmen and Raquel but all other guests should prepare at least 1 plate each aside from that.

Some suggestions:

Mashed potatoes with gravy (absoultely nesessary).
 Stuffing (absoultely nesessary).
 Sweet potatoes.
 Normal salad.
 Pumpkin pie and other pies.
Green beans, glazed carrots or other veggie dishes.
 Some type of soup.
 Rolls with butter.
 Ice cream (for the pies).

Other suggestions are welcome!!!

Can ya tell this is a list for the "Typical Thanksgiving Dinner" Red Face

Rememberm we will be 20 people so prepare the dishes accordingly.

IT IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ONLY SIGN UP IF YOU ARE 1,000,000% SURE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEND SINCE THE POTLUCK DINNER ITSELF REALLY DEPENDS ON THE GUSETS.

Please keep an eye on this "Thanksgiving in Madrid" thread on the board for updates.

I have created a list of the RSVPs at www.multimadrid.com/thanksgiving.txt .

Please let me know via an e-mail to jeremy@multimadrid.com...

1) If you are ABSOLUTEL, POSITIVELY, DEFINITELY
coming?
2) How many you are?
3) What dish you plan to cook & bring with you? PLEASE SEE THE CURRENT LIST HERE FOR DISHES THAT ARE ALREADY COVERED.

... before days end on Monday, Nov. 25th.

Saludos,
jer...

NOTE!!!: Raquel is having problems with her oven and it will not be available for use. She has a micowave but just in case, it is a good idea to bring all "hot food" so that it stays as warm as possible for as long as possible (i.e. tupperware, etc...).
