am going to spain in 6 weeks - holidaying. Have found 3 dosmilpeseta notes lurking in a drawer = 6000 total - haa picture of Jose Celestino Mutis on them. My questions
1. can they be exchanged for euros at a bank in spain or am I 3 years too late?
2.is it possible to work out approximately how much they would have been worth?
3. If worthless are any charities still accepting old foreign currency - have read an article saying that UNICEF was doing so at the time of the change over to Euros

Hi,
I believe that you still can exchange pesetas for Euros. All banks used to do this, but now it is done ONLY at the Bank of Spain. The Bank of Spain is located in the center near Cibeles on the Castellana. It even has its own metro stop right near "Banco de España".

The exchange rate was absolutely fixed for last several years. Therefore, you need to divide pesetas by 166.386. Therefore, dividing 6,000 by 166.386, they will give you 36.06 Euros!!!

Good luck,

Val

hi shiela, welcome the board.

congrats on your new found fortune big grin

i can confirm what val says, you can still change them at the banco de españa.

the entrance you have to use is on calle marques de cubas, see map by clicking HERE.

if you try to strut into the main door on the calle alcala or on plaza de cibeles, you will be stopped by the armed guards.

bring your passport as they may ask for it to change the bills.

saludos and please come back here and let us know how it goes,
jer...
