Hi Shell
I've experienced the same problem.
I can text my daughters in Israel, but can't get any text reply from them.
It has to do something with the mobile companies agreements.
Any way it's a lot cheaper to call.

Why do you need to use the text option of Skype? Buy a pc mic for around $5 and get b/friend to do the same.

You can then chat for free unlimited.

If he doesn't have a net connection, then use the sype to phone option. It will work out a lot cheaper.

Good luck

Sorry, but are all these suggestions for shell? Cos if she can't work out that just calling her boyfriend will solve the problem, the rest of this is irrelevant to her big grin

I'm interested though, cos I didn't realise about skype text, so thanks for that!!!

I have been using Voipcheap to send text messages to mobile phones for ages now, mostly when in the UK back to Spain though, and I feel it has an edge over Skype, and is a little cheaper at just 3.5 pence per text, having room for 160 characters of text per message, the same as Skype,
so fairly adequate for most messages.

It does make you wonder though doesn't it? Why it is that she didn't just dial his number and say "hey I'm trying to txt you" or something, it would have taken just one minute to get his attention, and then make some kind of arrangements to talk!

Strange..... eeker

Saludoz.

jer--
I think that is the shortest, most succinct, and best bit of advice I've ever seen on this board.

I use skype for texting simply becuase it's easier to type a message. Note to get your number you need to "text" yourself. You get a confirmation code and then all text messages sent out have your number.

Also calling mobiles (cells to Americans) unfortunalty costs about 20 cents a min anywhere in europe.

I don´t think she is so stupid.

If her bf is way out in the wilderness, often texting is the only way to communicate. We have that problem here in Castilla y Leon...telephone attempts just get ´no coverage´ error messages, but texts always get through.
