Personally, I found that Holiday gym had the best quality out of the other gyms that I visited. In terms of their classes, thats my favorite part. I normally take maintenence, interval, fitness, pump and spin cycle. They also have salsa, hip hop, yoga, taebo, step, aerobics, swim, taichi, sevillanas, aerobox and a bunch more that arent coming to mind. Classes are daily, but with a gap between 3:30-6 which is frustrating at times (they also have very few classes on the weekends). There are 2 classrooms, the pool, and the spinning room for the bikes.
Gotta go, off to the gym!

Does anyone know off hand of the address for the Holiday near Bernabeu Stadium? I am researching gyms as well and am looking closer to where I live as well as closer to where our business will be located (Plaza Castilla, Tetun, Valdeacederas, Cuzco and Bernabeu are all gym locations that I would consider.) Any suggestions?
For those a little further out from urban Madrid (Las Matas, Galapagar, Villaba, Guadarrama, etc) I checked out the 24 Fitness next to the Palacio del Hielo in Villaba yesterday. Their installations are brand spanking new having been open for less than a year. They dont have a pool, but have a very large aerobics room (with a great view of the mountains), a spinning room, at least 10 treadmills, stationary bikes, etc as well as the machines and sauna. Currently their rates are 80€ initiation (I couldnt get them to waive it) and then 59€ a month. It was a little pricey for me...but perhaps someone else would be interested!
Jer, let me tell you that the Husa Princesa Gym is a Holiday Gym that offers the possibility to use it if you are staying in the hotel. Thats the only option for daily users Saludines!

Ok, 8 months later and I FINALLY got my slackin ass over to the...
Instalacin Deportiva Municipal Latina Plaza de la Cebada # 1
... and WORKED OUT!!!
I purchased a 20 use ticket (valid for the weight room and the pool) for 50 Euros. Every time I go, they simply punch the ticket for that use. At 2.50 Euros per use, it is a GREAT deal!!!
Yesterday was my first day and I can highly recommend this gym. Aside from the lap pool upsatirs, downstairs there are:
free weights. nautilus machines. rowing machines (2). static bicycles (about 8). a huge floor area for misc. stretching/excercises. etc...
It is basic but very clean and in general a good place to work out.
I had not worked out in years and you know they always say "muscles have memory". I can confirm this as mine instantly remembered how painful it is to lift weights It is a good pain though
I'd like to sign up at a gym in Madrid when I'm there.
I am a member at a place here in NY for like 250$ for 6 months. My membership is up 3 days before I leave. I guess if you go 4 times a week that gives you like a month's workout for 50 E's. Not too bad I guess.
How close is that gym to calle General Oraaaa..aaa?
Also, what are the denominations of the free weights? I mean here they're like every 5 pounds. Since I'm a moron with the conversions are the freeweights denominated like every 2 kilos or something?

Mike, I am afraid this gym is nowhere near where you need it to be.
There are "polideportivos" (public sports centers) closer to you however, all you need to do is look at the page at www.descubremadrid.com/buscador_poli.asp . I think the closest one to you is THIS ONE (not exaclty close however ).
Actually, if I went 4 times a week it would only be 40 per month, not 50 (2.50 per session).
They have every dumbell weight you could possibly imagine so not to worry about the denominations.
Has anybody been to the Playa Victoria polideportiva in Tetuan? Or more specifically to the pool there?
Jer, earlier on in this thread you mentioned a lap pool at the place you went to. I have seen in some of the prices lists that there is a price for a "calle" in connection with swimming. Would this mean a swimming lane? Does this mean that not everyone can use the lap pool?
14 days and counting...

Well, everyone can use the polideportivo pools (I am 100% sure of that as they are public centers) but the price that referred to "Calle" was most definitely the price to use the pool for the average person off the street.
You see, they have monthly rates and also offer swimming lessons which have other prices. Not to mention swim teams that surely get special rates.
So, the "Calle" price would apply to me for example since I would just be interested in swimming laps once or twice a week. Normally, "precio calle" simply refers to the price that is applied to the "average person".
I did not see that "calle" price thing that you mention so if you could link too it here I can take a closer look.
Lots of different prices and stuff there, I cant make sense of it all, but that probably has something to do with my dodgy Spanish... hopefully soon to be improved.
