Aside from Ikea, has anyone found any places in the city that sell fairly inexpensive bedroom furniture (dressers/cajoneras/cómodas/etc.)?

Thanks!

hey FLOAT MAP HERE on.

i find that furniture stores in the city are very expensive.

my wife sometimes goes to "casa" so you may want to have a look.

not sure where there is a list of stores but there is one just off plaza de santo domingo (metro santo domingo, line 2) at calle san bernardo number 2.

i think some of their stores have full furniture lines but others just have housewares.

saludos,

Hi,

We actually don't like Ikea much: too crowded, low quality, poor service...

We had much better luck with Merkamueble: slightly higher prices, but they have an excellent sale going on this month. There are quite a few in the Madrid area (see their website for details). There is one right by (you can walk from the same lot) to the Alcobendas Ikea, that's the one we've been to.

There's also a very cheap place called "Tu Mueble". The quality, in general, isn't great, but they seem to have some decent stuff at great prices. There is one on Avenida de Barcelona (Pacífico) and there are many in Madrid.

Good luck!

hey all.

luddy, i have not been to the new ikea yet but may go soon as we are going to buy a new sofa and a few other things.

Val, i would not make any blanket statements about ikea since it is all relative.

- "too crowded"

if you are nutzooo enough to go on a weekend, yes. try going during the week.

- "low quality"

this depends on the item. ena and i bought a bed over 6 years ago at a GREAT price and it is still strong (has gotten a lot of heavy use too big grin)

- "poor service"

i have never had a problem with the service at ikea and find the customer service a LOT better than that at many spanish furniture shops.

Hi,

I must admit that, in the past, we have had to go on weekends due to work! So, I cannot judge the weekday experience!

Also, the prices and styles are very good!

I just wanted to point out that there are other options out there and that Ikea isn't "perfect", nothing is...

Thanks,

Val

I read an article that said it was a ten minute walk from Las Suertes to the new Ikea--so more or less the same as Alcorcón, I suppose. It also said that Ikea is running a free shuttle from the metro to the store--not sure how often they run. Report back if you go.

Hi everyone,
Went to the new IKEA today at Las Suertes. It was about a 30 minute Metro ride from Sol. When you exit out of the Metro at Las Suertes you need to cross the street right in front of you (via a couple of crosswalks) and then walk straight for about 10 minutes to the store.

As for the shuttle, yes there is one but we only found out as we were walking back to the Metro and carrying a coffee table and lamps die laughing big grin

The shuttle stop is not marked but it picks people up from the Metro stop and there is room below the bus for your purchases. It's a great idea but there needs to be signage somewhere to tell people.

As for the IKEA, it's a typical one p always a great place to buy cheap and fairly good stuff. It was busy but not packed,

The trip makes for a good morning or afternoon outing. I would never attempt it on the weekend.

I think we'll go back next week but this time wait for the bus blush
