Hi Can anyone help me? I am meeting my elderly parents in Barajas airport next week. They are flying in from UK and I am coming in from Lanzarote. They are unable to walk any great distance, especially with suitcases. Trouble is they arrive 3 hours before me. Any suggestions as to where they can wait for me to collect them, preferably where they can have a snack, look at some shops etc. Thanks!!!

Too far: there is a 400-500 metre corridor between terminals, although there are "pasillos rodantes" (sorry, I don't know that in English). There are free buses between terminals, but I think this is even worse.
Anyway, I think a kind of golf cars is being used to take people with impaired mobility to one place to another in the airport. May be you can contact either the airline or the airport to check that (if they are doing a transfer to Lanzarote with you, I'm sure the airline will cater for that).

thanks max, Looks like they will just have to drink an awful lot of coffee waiting for me to get to them!! I have suggested they go straight to our hotel in Madrid, but they are too frightened to do that by themselves. Maybe when I tell them the alternative they will choose to do that!!!

I suggest you make arrangements w/Aerocity-they will take them directly tiotheir hotel-you can even prepay.I would alsoask them to meet your parents,I'm pretty sure they would do that if you explain it to them.Good luck

Hey madsue, snap! same name different way of writing it!!!! I agree with flanny, log onto Aerocity's web site and book your parents the shuttle bus. The driver will meet them at the terminal and help with the luggage. Your parents will then be settled into their hotel and feel more relaxed before you join them. Best Wishes Mad-Sue

Hi again madsue, I agree with everyone that it is a bad idea to have your folks go to the domestic terminal. When I go to Barajas, I usually have to make that trip between the 2 terminals and it is not a short one at all. As Max said above, there are "pasillos rodantes" (automatic walkways) that are like flat escalators and tat make the trip easier but there is still quite a bit of walking.
I also think that the best thing to do is have Aerocity (WEBSITE HERE) get your parents and bring them to the Hotel to wait for you there.
Make sure you reserve the shuttle early and clear up all details with them so that they know that they have to meet your parents and all. It is a great service and they really do care
Not sure how much it costs for that special service but then again, can't put a price on Mom & Pop huh
Saludos & let us know how it went here on this thread, jer...
Hi and thanks to everyone, Have suggested to the oldies that I will get them the "personal" touch (i.e. Aerocity) to take them to the hotel. They are just too scared - so have opted to stay in the cafeteria in arrivals till I reach them!!! I'm usually in transit in Barajas, so have no probs!! Maybe taking them to Madrid was not such a bright idea!!! I'll let you all know!!! Thanks again, madsue
PS Sorry Mad-Sue for taking your name in vain - I've been called this for years!!!

Just looked on the Aerocity link - seems incredibly cheap - would like to book it - how long will it take me to get from domestic to international arrivals - walking!!!!

Confirmed Max, 10 minutes more or less, as long as madsue does not get lost
madsue, ask for directions from the domestic terminal info desk when you arrive, it is a bit too complex to give them to you here.
One more thing, if you ask a Spaniard for directions from one terminal to another, calculate another hour or so that you will need to make sense of the directions they give you (es broma).
Hey, here is the latest on the walk from the International arrivals terminal (downstairs at T2) to the Metro entrance at Barajas airport.
This morning I think I crossed the line and my site became an illness rather than a hobby and a passion of mine
If you have Real Player installed on your computer, you can click HERE to see my newest (and probably most absurd ) video of the walk from the International (T2) arrivals terminal to the Metro at the airport.
Yup, I actually did it! And it took just over 6 minutes but that was without bags and walking fast so I think 10-15 is a better estimate for someone with baggage.
Saludos & don't be afraid to let me know if I am ill in doing this, jer...
That was fun! It was actually quite helpful if one was new to the airport and actually wanted to ride the metro with all of her luggage filled with American (and Mexican) food for her son That would have been me except I opted for a taxi instead so my route to transportation was much shorter. I just walked out the front door! Oh and you know what? I never even went through customs. I just collected my bags and out I went. I was very surprised by that. Shoot, if I'd have known I wasn't going to have to go through customs, I would have brought those homemade tamales after all! Mama Chula
