hey jar.

at astanga yoga you can decide how many times a week you wanna go and the price varies depending.

ena goes 2x per week, mon. and thurs. for 2 hours at a time, cost is 60 euros/month.

so, 16 hrs. a month comes to 3.75 euros an hour.

if you go 1x per week, it is 40 euros, bringing the per hour up to 5 euros.

as with most gyms/classes/etc..., the more you go, the lower the cost.

you can call borja and natalia or drop by and take it from there.

Do you know if they offer an English session for those of us who are still conquering Spanish?

not sure but you can ask them. they advertise quite heavily in some ex-pat rags here so it might be a good idea for them.

personally, with others in class and a hands-on instructor, i DO NOT think you need class in english.

if you learn a handfule of yoga related words and watch the others in class, you will have no probs.

Excellent! Thanks for the info.

I do worry about the extent of the "hands-on" thing though... roll eyes

You're the best, jer!!!!

Hi Jarbacky - I am in a similar mind to you i.e. need to get fitter but don´t fancy pumping iron, jogging etc and have previously enquired about yoga lessons here but since done nothing about it. Must be my New year resolution-mindset or summink but I am beginning to address the idea again!! (Why isn´t thinking about getting fit enough?! I already feel knackered!)

Anyhow, just wondering if you went to Atanga and, if you did, how did you get on?

If its any use to you I have also heard of a place called Yoga centre at Lagasca, 32 tel: 91 575 1542. Haven´t called yet but intend too very soon.

Anyone got any comments to add about this place?

hey MarkE.

not sure how much Jar pops in here since she is in u.s.a. now. she left a few days ago frowner i do not think she ever made it over to the yoga place but cannot confirm.

i can give you an update on ena (the wifey big grin). she ABSOLUTELY LOVES the place (astanga) that she goes to (see above).

not sure if it is normal but she has gotten very strong and in whipped into shape very fast. before starting yoga there, she had not done any real excercise in many years. she has been at the yoga twice a week for 2 hours at a time for 3 months now (almost) but after just 1 month i noticed a huge change in her physically. she feels great and active as well.

borja (the owner and main instructor) is also really a good, patient and helpful teacher.

on the down side, now she can kick my ass!!! die laughing die laughing die laughing eeker

saludos,
jer...

Hi Jer

Thx for that update smiler Glad to hear your new wife feels great...! BTW I think I saw some chat about your birthday so feliz cumpleanos if its appropriate!

Back to yoga´- just not sure if someone with heart issues like high blood pressure etc (i.e. me)should undertake something as energetic as this form of yoga suggests. But I guess thats a question for my GP and not you! LOL

MarkE--
I would recommend trying a beginning Iyengar class to start out. Mainly because there you will learn the correct postures and can get loosened up a bit. Try different classes until you find an instructor that you really like. Then, if you want to connect the poses together and get a bit more of a workout, you could do a flow (vinyasa) or ashtanga class.

Thx mariposita. I appreciate the help and look forward to posting the first pics of my newly-supple-and-bendy body formed in the shape of your name here on the mm boards!! Sometime next week I guess once I have done my first free lesson?!
