Hey Juliette67, your journal link is dead, you have to try it without the "." (period) at the end. Saludos, jer...

Hey boneshaker... quote: also i remember reading something about a guy doing a street level photo-mapping project of madrid where you can search any street address and see a photo of the building. does anyone know the url for this site?
As miguelito has said above, the QDQ site is what you are looking for and the more direct link to the mapping stuff is at http://fotos.qdq.com . There is also a thread on it here on the board at www.multimadrid.com/ubbgrfx/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=000013It is not exactly a guy who does it but rather a MONSTER corporation as it is quite a project. Madrid and Barcelona are on there now and rumor has it they are working on Valencia now. quote: bonus question: are there any mobile/cell phones on the market that are gps inabled? sorry, i am a little bit behind on the tech front at the moment.
There are quite a few on the market here. Being "phone boy" himself , I use the SONY-ERICSSON P800 pda/phone/camera/etc... and love it. I think it would be the IDEAL phone for the project you are thinking of. Saludos, jer...

Hi TonyG, I too, must admit that I've become a blog addict as well. It's the only way to get good balanced news anymore. There are a lot of weblogs for libraries around the world that I get news about what is happening before they reach the journal. I knew that Fidel Castro had jailed those Librarians before it hit the news agencies, because a Canadian Librarian was there and sent it to one of the blogs and then it was mass transited to all the library blogs within hours! Thanks for this one. I had not run into him yet! It's a good one!

Hey TonyG, Here's a great site http://www.tintachina.com/ it is run by a spanish Librarian. She says that "tintachina es un weblog que refleja la influencia de Internet en la comunicacin, los negocios y la vida cotidiana."

thanks for the info!!! the QDQ site is truly amazing. i have just tripped around the madrid i know and it's crazy how many subtle details of a place come rushing back when i can just look at a photo. the only problem is that i can't remember the street address of so many of the places that i want to virtually return to. guess that will have to be research "a pie" once i return. so can a sony-ericcson p800 be rented by the day from onspanistime? i think your right in that this will be the best tool for my project. i have a simple nokia and use a tarjeta plan for my daily things. but i want to consolidate all my tools into one for this project. so the p800 uses gps for determining location or do you have to do a websearh with address? and if it uses gps, is it then possilbe to not only determine the present position but also send that info to an application that would broadcast on the internet my current location? i am kinda thinking about a online map where people can see me moving through the city. i know that this stuff is out there but i don't know if it is only accessable by law enforcement and corporate entities. well my budget is small, this is an art/performance project after all, and i'm looking for the best and most affordable solution. anyway it is something that i would like to discuss further, particulary with jer, once i get back to madrid. it is possible that i can create a website for this project that would also direct new users to multimadrid. just a thought.

Don't give it a thought , Jer. multimadrid is by far superior to any weblogs. Weblogs are ok for small memberships, that's why they cannot compete with mm . Here you have over a thousand people with tons of varied ideas, beliefs and concerns! Weblogs=smallscale communications; mm = Big time Fun!

Thanks Booklady Guess I will stick to my little Madrid project then boneshaker my man, I think I spoke too soon. I know you can load gps appicatins into the P800 but I really know nothing about their use. quote: so can a sony-ericcson p800 be rented by the day from onspanistime?
:jeje: :jeje: :jeje: Sorry for the laughing but that was hilarious!!! It would cost you 100/day if I did have one available for rental Your project is ambitious but I think it would prove to be VERY EXPENSIVE here in Spain. Saludos, jer...

A 100euro/day !?!? Wow, I suppose you could pay off the phone with only 6 rentals. :jeje: Actually, I know that the project is ambitious. Walking anywhere for 24hours is a bit crazy for most folks. Anyway, I know that the p800 is the latest in cell/pda technology and I think that it would be a great tool for me in the future. Let's hope by the time I am ready to get the project off the ground, I can afford one of my own. My problem is that as long as I don't have a bank account there I am restricted to using a tarjeta plan and I don't think I can do that with p800, and why would I anyway? Thanks anyway for your answer, jer. As far as GPS goes, I know that I can find a GPS application for a PDA and I am sure that I could then relay that info to a cell and then the WWW. But I think it is only a matter of time before all phones are constantly sending location information to a supercomputer somewhere. Can be pretty scary if you think about it. It can also put Rand McNally and Michelin out of business as millions of cell phone users constantly remap places by walking through them to an accuracy that mapmakers can only dream about.
