This could probably also go in the work and residency in Spain board, but I'm going to piggy back this here initially since the QDQ link did so well here.
I think this is a seriously cool site and wonderful tool where you input what you are earning where you live and where you want to move to. It will tell you what you need to earn in the new location to maintain the same quality of life.
Here you can compare more facts than you really need to know about the country you want to go to with your home country or any other.
My wife and I have done the rellocation bit and we didn't have anything like this available. I wish we would have. Enjoy!! (Feel free to move it Jer if you feel it appropriate.)

Sorry bro... but not everyone has the web weaving talents that you do. I have to suffer developing and testing software for a living which takes away from the time that I'd really like to dedicate to my message board reading. Oh well, gotta put the 'pan en la mesa', I guess...
That's cool. But just look at it this way, I'm on a roll here after the QDQ thread. Let's see if I can get this one going as well.
Come on multimadridians! Post away!!!!! Be good.....

jer, Inexpensive is a relative term. According to that site mentioned about calculating salaries, my significant other and I would need almost $12,000 more a year to live at similar level as in Austin. That doesnt even take into account flying back home to visit, etc. I would love to live in Madrid, but we cant afford it. madrilena wannabe

Hey madrilea wannabe, I understand what you ar saying but personally I think that anyone who would move from Georgetown, DC to Austin is a hbit "loco", or was that just an example you were giving.
jazzbo, I agree with you, that salary calculator page is off and on(ish) depending on the countries you put in. I think that creating a truly reliable calculator of that type is next to impossible.
Saludos, jer...
p.d. hey tonytorero, looks as if you have the golden touch on this starting of threads thing
You're right. It's off in several respects. That's why I recommended the other site as a complement. This is certainly relative information to say the least and it will be impossible to consider every expense and come up with a perfect calculator, but the idea here is to give you a 'ball-park'.
I have an current job offer in a country I've never been to and know very little about, but when I used the site to compare my current salary with the statistics on the CIA's site to my current home country, I saw it as being a very valuable set of tools that work well together.
Just keep that in mind and maybe give both tools a shot just to see if it helps a bit more. Peace....

jer. I live in Georgetown, Tx. 26 miles north of Austin. This area always rates in the top 10 (USA) as far as quality of life. The weather is great, the Hill Country is gorgeous and we're near San Antonio, Mexico, etc. There are beautiful lakes and rivers, lots of outdoor things to do. It is 70 degrees F right now at 3 in the afternoon.
I have lived in DC, Virginia, Rhode Island, North Carolina, California, Panama and Spain. Spain has my heart, but I can't live as well there as here.
Have you ever lived in Austin? madrilena wannabe
