A while ago I bought the last album by Diego Torres, "Un mundo diferente" and all the songs are very beautiful! Diego Torres is an Argentinian singer and he at least has 4 or 5 albums. More info: http://www.diegotorres.com.ar/home.html

Another album I like: "Estrella de mar" by Amaral. It is a group from Zaragoza (A city in the North-East of Spain, more or less)and they have several albums but "Estrella de mar" is the one that has made them really popular over here. More info: http://www.amaralonline.net/indice.htm

Hola Rebeca, y muy buenos dias, yeah yeah yeah , definately, I got that Album of Diego Torres's in Madrid in March or June this year, at FNAC- c/Preciados I think, and I think it's great. Theres something about the track names in Spanish, it's not the same with track names in English, they are sweeter and sound more interesting, and the Music speaks for itself, it's an excelent Album and highly recommended.
Thanks for the Link to the website.
Un abrazo.

oh no, that's not what I meant. I meant generally speaking, when it comes to track names on Spanish music albums in general, I like how they are called in Spanish, the way they sound.
sorry about the confusion Rebeca.

Has anyone listened to some the the hybrid Flamenco (i think they refer to it as Fusion) that is coming out of Canada, the U.S. and Latin America? There are about 5 artists doing fantastic work combining Flamenco, Jazz, and other forms that might be particular to their region. Jessie Cook is one that comes to mind. So is Oscar Lopez.

Hi, can't say that I'm all that familiar with the hybrid flamenco or fusion as yet, but I will be chatting to my brother in Canada this week, and see if he can get some info on it for me.
I'll do a search on yahoo.com for the names you mentioned, and see what comes up. Quite often, you can download some MP3 samples to get an idea of what the music is like. I'll post my findings.
Saludos

No, it is ok...it is just that it took me aback that Diego Torres may have an album in English!

oh my god, you've got the best of the best over there, all those great names, Jesse :l: Oscar :l: Ottmar :l: Gypsy Kings :l: (I have the Gypsy kings best of abums) their a great bunch of guy's, well their all great, all those artist's that you mentioned, if only I had more money, I would buy the lot on line and have them shipped over, epsecially Ottmar Liebert & Omar Torrez's latest works of Art, I can't find them here in London, and could'nt in either Barcelona or Madrid 7 weeks ago, although I was looking at 2 of Ottmars Albums in a CD shop in c/-Tallers in Barcelona about 2 years ago, but unfortunately I already had about 7 CD's in my hands, and simply could not afford to buy any more at that time, and so they were left, and I forgot about him for a while, until a friend returned from Jaen in Andaluzia, and played Nouveau Flamenco one evening, and I remembered just how brilliant this man really is.
I'm hoping that when I'm back in Madrid for my usual Christmas break, away from this crazy place called London, I might be able to locate some of his albums, like for example, Nouveau Flamenco, Nouveaumatic, Barcelona night's the best of.
If I can find them, and on special offer, I might just be able to scrape together a few extra euros, and miss-out a couple of lunches or something, and if I can find a copy of Omar Torrez's "La Danza" I would seriously consider selling my mobile phone dirt cheap so that I could buy it, but to my knowledge, it can only be purchased on-line & shipped over to London, and with what the post office is like here, I seriously doubt that I would receive it, as is often the case here.
Anyway, it's really refreshing to find that on this Board of ours, there are other people who understand and share in my passion for all this lovely music, and can feel as I do the true essence of it in their heart, because for me it's not something that is just for the ears, I don't so much hear it with my ears, but with my heart & soul.
That music is in my blood, and there have been many times in my life, when it was quite literally the only thing keeping me going, helping me to keep my head together when things were going badly, a real life saver that music is to me, all music in Spain and/or of Spanish origin, and like you say, with that very distinctive sound of the Arabic & Celtic influence, with a hint of the traditional southern or Andalusian Gypsy flamenco.
And as for our friends "Hevia" and "Carlos Nuez", well, I can tell you that the headphones are hardly ever off my head when I'm doing the cleaning or cooking or washing the car, not a day goes by without my daily fix of that wonderfully Intoxicating Celtic/arabic/spanish and even "funky" (dare I say) Music. It really does pull me out of the pitts and reminds me of home, some of my ancestors were from Galicia, (Celtiberians) "Celtic-Iberians" and I have been enjoying the more traditional sounds of cante flamenco for years, and some family members were into Zarzuela a lot at one time, (Placido Domingo, Alfredo Kraus) for example, who's albums I was looking at in el corte Ingles at Arguelles - Madrid in June, all good stuff.
Anyway, keep the links coming, they are all brilliant and extremely useful to all that see them on the board, and serve to introduce those who are not familiar with all those great artists, and don't know what they are missing, and music is an extremely Important part of Spanish Culture, both in Espaa and the U.S. north & south, & Canada etc etc, all over the world in fact, the Influence of the Spanish Guitar can be heard and distinctive beats & vocal effects similar to that of the Celtic & Arabic music.
cheers Booklady, I'm off now to put my headphones back on, and close my eyes and Imagine being there in Galicia, thinking about the Pipers (Gaiteros) of times past, standing on a Celtic green hill top playing with all the great stammina that those guys have.

Booklady...if you like the arabic sound, I bet you would like Alabna . The lead singer of this group, Ishtar, is half morroccan and half Egyptian and she combines Egyptian sound styles with Flamenco.
The group came out with a song in 1999, titled Alabna which became a hit in various clubs in Philadelphia....I believe it was also popular here in Spain. The groups producer is French.
Great great music. I have the LEssentiel album. A definite MUST-HAVE for your collection.
