...who want to start an Expat Filmmakers Club with me? Right now I'm shooting very short profiles of expats in Madrid. For example of my profile style, check out one of my shorts:
i know there is a filmmaker in me just dying to get out.
actually, i just bought THIS MINI DV HANDYCAM from SONY USA and am waiting for it as my mother has sent it to me here in spain. as usual, it costs 30%+ more here in spain so i went with buying it online, having it sent to mom and then her sending it to me. had a $300 e-cupon with SONY from when i bought my laptop in dec. so the camcorder ended up costing me $500 intead of the 700-800 euros it costs here
would love a PRO CAMERA like the one you guys use (saw it on your website, a cannon no?) but figured i would start a bit smaller (and a LOT cheaper). those pro cams are out of my league right now.
maybe in the future.
far from a filmmaker, i plan to putz around with my new cam and mayeb put together some dvd documentaries of spain
would love to meet up with you and anyone else into this but it will be a learning thang for me, as i said, i know NADA about filmmaking.
The best way to learn about filmmaking is by doing it! I have a Canon Xl1s and we can shoot some stuff with that. I have a lot of project ideas and I'm sure you do as well.
Actually, I just got done working as production manager on the documentry Two Toledos about the first City Cities relationship in the world. Check it out: http://www.twotoledos.com
hey...i've been swamped by filmmakers lately and have decided to try it out myself. i am laying down plans for documentary about "the red hot mamas" of slidell, louisiana. should be a hoot.
i plan on just doing it as phil suggests. currently i am camera shopping. will order online and have it sent to my own red hot mama down in slidell.
would love to meet up soon phil and chat more.

Rule one: the most important thing in digital filmmaking is buying the most high quality tape you can find!
I have just had a major emergency and my head feels like its been run over by a truck...I did a great interview with an American Expat who is renouncing his American citizenship. The camera has digested the tape and I cant get it out! Its possible some of the tape is destroyed and in any case, it will be expensive to fix all of this. I am now feeling a wrathful depression...
So I can up with a new maxim.
[Insert wise Asian accent] "You can make great digital film with a cheap camera and a good tape, but you can never make a good digital film with an expensive camera and CRAPPY-ASS TDK FRICKIN LOSER SONOFA$&%/&//%&(&%(/%$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tapes.
